Comments (4)Could you reseat the cabinets, and top with preformed laminate countertops? To be clear, I was recommending Ikea's cheaper portable kitchen units, with integrated countertops, not "regular" Ikea cabinets. For a temp kitchen, I might buy the sink/countertop unit, one of the base cabinets on wheels, anything else required to make it legally sellable. And then after purchase, make some temp countertops out of plywood over sawhorses, and a tall bookshelf to hold pans and ingredients....See Morefinishes in kitchen dilemma
Comments (1)No. Stainless is neutral and goes with pretty much anything. I think a brushed stainless finish on a light fixture will look dated so best to avoid....See MoreNew build kitchen dilemma
Comments (9)allycinwonderland - I found that a white quartz tends to go gray or pink. The quartz in my bathroom and laundry room lean more gray. My quartz probably does not have the veining that you want, but it is more gray than pink hued. Here in the laundry room it is up against SW Pure White window trim over the sink (the trim/window skirt meets up with the quartz). SW Pure White door trim on the opposite wall with my quartz. The wall paint is SW Basalt Powder. Here is the quartz with a SW Dorian Gray bathroom cabinets. Walls are SW Basalt. And in Master with SW Repose Gray. Walls are SW Origami. For our kitchen, I went with a marble. It has the perfect color of white to match my SW Pure White trim! You can see a tad of trim to the left. The cabinet color is SW Polar, which turns out is a tad grayer than the trim. We only have a couple of places where the trim meets the cabinets, so someone would really have to study the differences in color. I am one of those! 🤣...See MoreKitchen dilemma, opinions please!
Comments (19)“The big issue is the entire style of the whole can not be changed with minor changes like counters and removing appliqués. You would be spending a large sum, for insignificant changes.” I did not see that the OP’s goal is to change “the entire style of the whole”. Actually, the husband’s 3-year postponement of any changes, and his not wanting to paint the cabinets says to me that this couple does NOT want ”significant changes”. While it won’t be cheap, it will be a fraction of the cost of an entirely new kitchen. If the OP shops carefully for Island counter, backsplash, sink, faucet and cabinet handles, there are good prices to be had. Those things sound like just the right amount of changes and compromise to meet both spouses’ wishes. “You cannot make it into something it is not,” My same comment - this couple has not said they want to make the kitchen into something it is not. ”That is a lot to ask a white counter to overcome.” My same comment - given what the OP wrote, they are not trying to “overcome” the current kitchen. And it’s not just a new counter, but also backsplash, sink, faucet, cabinet hardware, perhaps removal of corbels and such if feasible. That is plenty to create a freshened kitchen. It sounds exactly like the compromise they are looking for....See MoreT Go TX
