Off center master bedroom windows and weird design. Please help.
Comments (19)If you take out that one wall, there is still the issue of where to place the bed. Do you have measurements or a floor plan of the suite? I wonder...what if you actually extended the right-hand wall, and moved the doorway to the left? Then you could place the bed with the head against the wall. Or...how long is the wall between the bedroom door and the little niche? Is it long enough to be a doorway, and close up the existing doorway? From the way light falls, it looks like there is a door to another bedroom just to the left of the MBR door, is that right?...See MoreDoes you master bath color match master bedroom
Comments (14)Nothing wrong with mixing up colors. The colors should coordinate a bit so they flow from one room to another. My master suite is three rooms in an "L" shape, the sitting room is in the middle. All three rooms are open to one another with doorless archways, so they do flow visually. The center room, the sitting room, has deep red/burgundy walls and a cream/ivory trim color. Off one side of the sitting room is the bathroom. The the trim and cabinets are the same cream/ivory as the sitting room, but the wall are somewhat beige. Off to the other side of the sitting room is our bedroom. In there the walls are sort of a cream/ivory, and the trim/cabinets/wainscot is a deep muted historical green. The cream/ivory sort of ties the three rooms together and the other colors sort of bounce off that. For bathrooms which can be dominated by hard surfaces (fixtures/tile/stained wood) where the color of those items can be difficult or expensive to change, I usually recommend that those hard surfaces be a neutral or somewhat muted color. Then the wall color, or soft accent items like towels and throw rugs, curtains, etc, which are easy to change, be the stronger and sometimes more vibrant accent color. The hard surface colors in our bathroom are sort of neutral (cream cabinets and trim, beige walls, natural teak for the countertops and tub deck, tile is cream and charcoal), we change the color of the towels/rugs whenever we feel like it. Sometimes to a strong color; deep green, cranberry red, etc, sometimes to a soft neutral like beige, off-white, etc. And there is nothing wrong experimenting with colors either, especially paint. At roughly 10 cents a square foot coverage for basic formulations, paint color can be inexpensive and fairly easy to change....See MoreBedroom Ceiling Light is no longer centered in room -- what to do?
Comments (6)Thanks! Yes, an electrician friend will be doing the work (and I'll be helping out). My issue is that I can't simply patch and paint the old J-Box location because I have a California Stucco ceiling -- it would be impossible to match :( If I don't use the existing ceiling fixture location then I'll need to just cap it with one of these: You don't think there's a way to use the exisiting fixture location in some way? Thanks for your suggestions on centreing the downlights -- that makes a lot of sense! I think I'd prefer to get rid of the standard ceiling fixture altogether (more of a minimalist look in my bedroom) -- do you think 4 potlights centrered as you suggest is sufficient lighting for the space? Or maybe I should consider either: - adding a 5th potlight centered in the room, or - adding a 5th and 6th potlights above the bed centred on the TV? Thanks!...See MorePlease help me furnish my master bedroom!
Comments (13)@shirlpp Forget the centering question. Thoughts on a headboard going right up against the window? Would that look strange? @Lisa Caudill Same question about the headboard you like going right up against the window? And what are your thoughts on the bed you liked if I don't get the extra left/right panels? That would make the headboard the same width as the mattress, would it still be your pick for this room or would you go with a different bed? I have decided against having the bed off-center because of the fireplace wall and especially the TV on that wall. I think it would look weird plus it makes no sense to have a TV that is meant for watching in bed but is totally to the left of the bed. So the only options I'm considering are a bed with a traditional sized headboard or an extra wide headboard that goes right up to the window. Both would be centered on the room and on the fireplace wall. This is the fireplace wall with the accent light on, in case that increases the appeal of either of the beds with the LED accent lighting...See MorePPF.
