Window(s) above bed in Master Bedroom
Comments (10)I think Miz_G's suggestion to remove the trim from the two boxes, repair the wall and have only one window makes the most sense. It's strange that the previous owners left the trim when they removed the windows. Put an attractive shade on the one window and a piece of artwork where the old windows were....See MoreDesign help for Master Bedroom
Comments (36)Here are my suggestions: I think the orientation of the rug is correct but could be pulled forward about 8-12 inches. I would honestly recommend painting the walls! I found the color Revere Pewter by Ben Moore to be a beautiful warm and cool neutral. A round mirror above the tall dresser to raise the height in order to match the height of the windows. This helps the piece feel more like it belongs there. More info This lamp on either end table: More info Stick to white or off-white bedding in something full. Adding euro pillows will also help to add fullness to the bed. The way you dress a bed can really alter the way the room feels overall. Here's a duvet that we carry that I think would be perfect: More info Add color with a quilt or additional comforter on the end of the bed as well as in pillow shams. Use blues or a light taupe, or a mixture of the two. Heres a great bench option! Maybe in a dusty blue velvet :) More info For drapery, choose a color that matches the wall color you end up with. It does not need to match exactly, but be in the same family whether its slightly lighter or darker. Artwork is personal! If you can find pieces you love, then two side by side above the bed would work best. Definitely make sure you take measurements of the width of the head board so you do not exceed that width when hanging the pieces, and leave a few inches between the two. Good luck! :)...See MoreCape Cod 2nd Floor Master Bedroom Design Help
Comments (19)@decoenthusiaste Thanks so much for your input, I am leaning on agreeing with you at this point as I really don't want the room to appear any smaller than it is. @Cheryl Smith You are correct, the entry door is opposite the knee-wall door, but that run of wall before the dormer is not long enough for the bed, night stands and to still have access to the closet. After a lot of thought, the bed fits best and makes the most sense against the far wall with the window. @njmomma Thanks so much for the pictures, I had never thought about a blue door previously, but I kind of really like it!...See MoreMaster Bedroom Design/Furniture Help
Comments (19)We finally finished our remodel and have started trying to make decisions on furniture. Unfortunately, I’m already questioning my first purchase (fortunately, it can be returned). I decided to start with the sitting area because, with everyone working and learning from home, I wanted a comfortable place to escape to where I could make calls, read, search for furniture, etc. I tried out a few different options using furniture we already own, and settled on a settee or loveseat. Chairs weren’t as comfortable (I like to stretch out), and I didn’t like the layouts I tried because two looked crowded and one looked lonely (athough, admittedly, the styles of the chairs weren’t right for the area). I tried out a small child’s sofa we have and although it was too small I liked the look and coziness of it. So, I made a snap decision and bought one online, and now I’m questioning the style and size of it. For reference, the area is 70” wide and the settee is 53” wide. I thought it would look best with some breathing room on each side (and there’s a baseboard heater behind it), but now I’m thinking something almost wall-to-wall might look better. Thoughts? I wasn’t planning on long curtains, but would they help fill in the space and hide the fact that the window isn’t centered in the dormer? The only issue with using curtains is the other dormer window in the room is very small and I’m not sure long curtains would look good there. I was also planning to use a 3x5 area rug to define the sitting area and purchasing either a narrow ~24” wood bench or 1-2 small round table(s) to set things on. Maybe some large art to fill up the wall space on each side? (The pillow in the middle is just a placeholder to see want I would want there). Here’s what the settee looks like centered in front of the window (lighting is making the color look off - it’s definitely not a perfect match but it looks better in person): I also tried it angled: Better picture showing the color: Possible rug options (I like the organic (?) lines/unevenness of the faux cowhides but not sure about them stylistically with this settee): The only other furniture in the room is a king-sized bed with an adjustable base. I’m still leaning towards an upholstered bed (probably wingback in style, color TBD and not sure now how it should relate to the color/style of the settee). Was also planning to get a 9x12 rug for under the bed, probably something plain and textural. That’s as far as I’ve gotten ... thanks for any thoughts/help!...See Morejentsu926
