I also found another project I did, where they used wood for the decking, and top railing cap with feeney cable rail as well. White timber tech post sleeves. I made a pergola to go over the deck and they bought one of these really cool colored sunsail awning to go onto. Like someone else mentioned the side stairs could be better with divided landings, and wider. As far as the siding I know its very expensive but hardy plank would last the longest with minimal maintenance. I also think that if something was done with bottom of deck, either columns, enclosed porch with deck underneath would change the whole appearance of the house, along with different rails.

Best use of 2K would be replacing those arched windows with rectangular ones. Maybe tall ones, the height to the top of the arch. But would it sketch out to scale first to make sure taller windows 'work'. The front portion around the windows is on the concrete, That trim is probably some kind of synthetic stucco over foam board. Not hard to get rid of. The bluish grey is not nice in the pictures. I would like white siding, white gutters and slate grey trim. Also agree with housson that the door should be a glossy black . For the entrance area, if possible, build a large light grey square deck that extends from the front door (no steps) to close to the property line and from the back wall (right of front door) to under the 3 windows (left of front door) with a white & glass railings like the other side of house (rear).

Glass would be an interesting way to go. There are many options, but something directly above the door is far preferable to extending the roof. And getting water off will be important. I don't think an architect is necessary and it would be difficult to find someone who would take on such a small job. But it DOES need to be engineered. Maybe start with a local contractor but make sure it will be properly supported and drained.
