For anyone reading about this question--installation is key. I've had 2 Miele washers installed in my 1906 house on the 2nd floor, without any special setup. First had noticeable vibrations at the super high spin speeds that the washer can do. It was workable and we had it that way for about 12 years,doing a ton of laundry, but it did vibrate some @ high speeds. Second machine W3038 has VERY amazingly little vibration/noise even at its highest spins. Not really a difference in the machines, its that the second one was installed by Miele while the first one wasn't--I thought we'd adjusted the levelling well, but obviously not as well as the professional Miele installer. I was very pleasantly installed to find out how little it now vibrates or makes noise.

As a thoughtful, skeptical, researching kind of person I understand the suspicions of some posters. But I hope the focus will stay on the problem. I would be happy to post the store name where I bought the washer/dryer and the contact info for the incredibly helpful salesman who has watched in disbelief as this unfolded. He has told Miele the store may pull their Miele products if this isn't resolved. I did do my own thorough research before purchasing these new large Mieles, and it is easy to read these Gardenweb threads without participating via written response. This thread was even noted by the international consumersearch.com as an especially avid group of laundry product users. Google makes very local conversation potentially global. I went into the Miele showroom with the thread about the vastly noisy dryer printed out in my hand. This was even the impetus for the 90 day buy back guarantee, I think. Miele does listen to what happens here. I signed up the day I posted because I am not an online thread conversation kind of person. I think this is only the second time I have ever been in a kind of chat room forum. The other time was for a medical treatment. It just isn't my thing. But I am at a loss as to how to get some resolution. This is a democratic way for the little person to fight back when corporations act like a Kafka novel. It is always easier to believe something is amiss with the report, until it happens to you. My goal here is to resolve the problem. How can I most effectively make that happen?

Just in case it's driving you crazy, I assume BFTGOG is "but for the grace of God go I" LOL. In my experience, banging is always in the water supply pipes, ie when the toilet flushes, the pipes literally rattle as the water comes on (or goes off) sharply. Dishwashers, washing machines and watering systems, anything with a solenoid (an electrically operated valve) are prone to cause it, as the water doesn't ease on and off like it does when you turn a tap on and off (which is much more gradual) Bad tap washers can also cause hammering (the machine gun type) or what you're experiencing, so if it's not happening now, I suspect you've fixed it. The old washer might have moved over time if it didn't used to make the noise, unless it's just gotten worse or stiffer over time...and more frequent use. You may also want to consider installing anti-hammer devices on your washer and dishwasher, you can get ones that screw in between the tap and the hot and cold water hoses.....some people fit (or the rules dictate) a "whole house" anti-hammer device which can be as simple as a tube that extends vertically from a T in the cold water, with a cap on the end. I've heard of them as short as six inches, but an old plumber told me at least two feet if not more. Air gets trapped in the vertical column and acts as a shock absorber, so when there's a "hammer" action, it cushions it. Over time, the column loses air so now and then you just turn off the water and run some water out of the system below this column, til air enters the system and replaces the air in the column. Mind you, these treatments are no substitute for keeping tap and toilet flush washers in good order.

It is expensive to repair but I do recomend it. My neighbor dis his machine him self but he is a machine enginer on big boats but there are vids on youtube. If it were me and I am in Sweden I would do it but if it is a well used machine do make use of this time to check it over like: Carbonbrushes of the motor, pump, suspention, clean out all hozes internaly, maybe more things Then you have a machine that will last many years more.
