Great Year for Stonefruit, Awful for Lettuce

I've had some of the best peaches, plums, nectarines this year that I've ever had. Also for the first time I bought some Plumcots - how wonderful and how sad I didn't discover them long ago! Stone fruits are my favorite but I'm disappointed so many times by the taste and quality but not this year. But the lettuce (especially Romaine) is just awful. I was going through some on the shelf trying to find some that wasn't already turning brown at the tips. The stocking clerk was right there and I mentioned it, he said that the wet weather was causing it. He said that when they open a case of lettuce they always wind up having to throw a bunch of it out. And I had to do a double take at the price of plain old cabbage at $1.19 a pound. What's going on? I thought cabbage was peasant food???

I like to keep cabbage to chop some into salads and to use for other things but came home without it.
