Peace Lily all leaves-very tall leaves
Comments (5)I have a PL that is huge, I got it from my grandmas funneral 4 years ago. It has been doing well and growing and producing flowers. Heres what I do. . . It is in a 10" pot (big I know but ths plant is huge)with drainage holes. I repotted it using Miracle Grow potting soil. It sits in front of a west facing window where it gets lots of sun and full direct sun for about 4 hours a day. When the leaves start droop slightly (not wilt and fall down, just hang less erect) I take it to the bathtub and water it w/ a 3 gallon bucket, let that completely drain and repeat 2 more times. I let it completely drain before setting back in front of the window. How often I water depends on the time of year, sometimes I water it every week (summer) and in the winter I water it approx. every 10-15 days. I let the plant tell me when it needs a drink. I NEVER let the leaves wilt, there is a fine line between drooping slightly and wilting, as in a few hours. For instance, I noticed one night at bedtime that it needed water and was going to water it the next day. The next morning it had wilted, but after a good drink it perked right back up. This is very damaging to the plant, so I don't let it happen if I can help it. I feed w/miracle grow but not very often. It blooms three - four times a year for me. Hope this helps....See MorePeace Lily- Brown Leaves
Comments (4)I strongly suspect that you are over watering your plant. This seems to be the primary problem with those who seem to struggle with Peace Lilies. This is a plant that hates to be water logged, but shouldn't dry out, either. These can be very difficult plants, darn it all! Though I have never thought of these plants as needing supplemental humidity, I will suggest that misting plants that are exhibiting brown spots is not a good thing. The act of misting moistens the leaf surface for a few minutes, but does nothing to humidify the surrounding air. Misting may even slow down a plant's transpiration process, not a good thing for a plant that has been over watered. Misting can certainly spread disease, however....See MorePeace lily getting browner by the day and leaves curling
Comments (58)Tropicbreezent- I've attempted at making a humidity tent out of cling wrap and some bendable wire, however I don't think it's doing much as the hydrometer next to it reads 34-40% (during the day, at night its 50-68%). I think this is because during the day we have the air con switch on whereas at night we switch it off. I've watered my PL once again today (I'm planning to do it every day till it settles). When I water, most of it gets drained out, so I'm thinking this watering schedule should be okay...hopefully no root rot. I've also covered the top of the pot with cling wrap (yeah I think I might ave gone a little overboard with it haha). My reasoning for doing this is because I noticed/read that the soil drys from top to bottom and with a coarse mix (5:1:1) this usually means the bark at the top drys out much faster than the mix around the roots. This means the dry bark would make it difficult to transfer oxygen to the roots (my understanding ??)....so by placing the plastic on top of the mix I'm hoping to retain the moisture this way till the next watering....See MoreBlackening leaves on peace lily
Comments (5)Overwatering isn't necessarily abt too much water. Sometimes it's abt incomplete drying down below, which causes root rot the same way too much watering does. I agree w/ suggestion to pot down smaller, there's now too much soil for lesser amount of plant, which can lead to root rot as well. You can't really diagnose a problem like this w/out unpotting, 'cause the answer lies in what's going on at the roots. Some drainage & /or rot is going on somewhere, hence the blackening leaves. Sorry to say this, but I doubt you'll resolve it until you see what's going on down below. Pls unpot & tell us what you find. Has the soil or rootball become hard to your touch?...See MoreHU-193944595
