There was some talk of that or something like it, on CBC radio this morning - how they were getting the best feed, and there was some glitch that almost cooked the whole thing, just a short while ... seconds ... before the landing. But it got cleared and the show went on, to go out to a number of nations.

Yes, there was a documentary on TV here the other night about the first moon landing, and apparently they got some signals from an observatory in California, but the pictures were upside down- someone had flipped the wrong switch, though they didn’t know that at the time. So they switched over to Honeysuckle Creek near Canberra and shortly after that, Parkes (which “The Dish” is about).

I was reading an article in yesterday’s paper about a 28yo woman engineer, JoAnn Morgan, who was in charge of communications for the landing. She had been with NASA since leaving college and was their best communication person. But they had to get special permission for her to be in the control room because everyone was horrified that she was one woman locked in with 500 men.

If you look at the photograph of the staff working in the control room, not one is looking in her direction because they were all engrossed by what was happening on the observation screen.

We lived about 5 miles (as the crow flies, or 30 minutes drive) from the remote California station.

I saw that movie years ago. It was good and so appropriate for this weekend.
