New build kitchen design
Comments (37)"would you consider moving the DW to the end to make a larger drawer cabinet to the left of the cleanup sink?" I have a Lemans to the left of the sink. I prefer those or susans to store small appliances and awkward/tall items to drawers. This is not a large kitchen which IMO means tailored storage instead of "all drawers" for maximum efficiency and convenience. There's a few options I'd be considering after talking with a client but as many know I don't play layout on here, leave that to you folks. a prep sink with plumbing routed to one corner with tray dividers but then you lose the 4DB by the fridge. I'd only do that if it were a brand where I could incorporate the drawers in the shallow pantry and still have it open on two sides. I kind of like that idea. making the Lemans larger and move DW over, (middle size used suits the kitchen though) moving the PO trash from the corner of the range leg to between the lemans and sink, moves the sink down and put a base with tray dividers and a RO where the trash is now (kinda small for that though) moving the fridge further over and giving up the pantry- more counter but no pantry. of course some of you would want all drawers :) Likely some other choices to consider. IRL a client would be presented with 3 or 4 options to start with (and I'd be showing the living room furniture since it matters here) and we'd discuss the pros and cons then adjust. I always depends on the client and what brand fits them and the budget hence what I can do....See Morea new build and my design dilemma
Comments (4)To get any decent feedback you can help yourself out by posting a scaled drawing showing the room dimensions with existing window and door location, as well as door swing. Also, is the rough plumbing already installed? If so, show those locations as well. If plumbed/installed, can any or all of the fixtures be moved? Tub? Toilet? Sink? Etc. If plumbing can be moved, bonus points for showing which direction the joists in the floor run, and noting what rooms are on the other sides of the bathroom walls....See MoreNew Build Kitchen Design Colour choices: Dark Blue Farmhouse Kitchen
Comments (75)If I had a dollar for every time I heard "I've never seen that done before" and "everyone else does/has...." I agree with cpartist. Having the hood, shelves and counter stools wood will be a good balance, along with a light floor, backsplash and walls. Between the kitchen and laundry room/back hallway in our last house, I had a floor to ceiling black hutch. No windows, only light from laundry room window (kitchen was in center of house), and the black hutch was not a hole of doom and gloom when the hallway light was off. One thing to consider is taking aways one wall cabinet on each side of the range hood to visually open up and lighten that area just a bit. What is happening elsewhere in the kitchen area, like around the corner of the far right wall? I currently have black soapstone counters on the F&B Blue Gray cabinets (walls painted the same color) with a counter to ceiling scalloped soapstone backsplash behind the range. It's countered with light French oak wood floors and light ceiling. Taking chances can pay off if executed well, but you will have to listen to a few naysayers along the way....See Moreseeking comments on new-build kitchen design
Comments (12)Different people have different needs. As I outlined in my posts a 48" all gas w/ 4 burners and 24" griddle/flattop serves us well 98% of the time and then the countertop induction hobs add some additional versatility/capability. I talked w/ Scotsman and they said cutting the power is fine. It's not ideal but given Scotsman's lack of a timer it is what it is. Ideally every icemaker should have the ability to set a programmed on and off time along with an overide for entertaining. If a $20 coffee maker can do that an icemaker certainly can. An 8 hr pause is better than nothing but still very limiting - we do a 20 hr pause most days. I would NOT put any range in the island - unless you live on an island (and so have lots of windows open at all times) or are OK with a really big hood. https://bamasotan.us/range-exhaust-hood-faq/ If you want a griddle/flattop (and I do recommend them) then stick with gas. Consumer level induction and electric perform quite poorly. And if you like to cook or want to expand your abilities then you'll want gas burners. Induction works well for a lot of people and perhaps most people but there's a reason restaurants still use gas. Consider doing a pass-thru between your pantry/scullery/prep and kitchen (good idea on using that as back prep or scullery). Counter level so things can be slid thru. Pocket door (about 12x12 or 12x18). You could also include a fixed window or two between the two....See Morelyfia
