Pop Up mixer cabinet

We are renovating our new house and in the kitchen design we have a cabinet with a pop up mixer shelf. Our daughter bakes a lot so we thought this would be a great feature. The problem is, now that I'm looking over the design we seem to be lacking storage for pots and pans and need more drawers

overall. I'm rethinking the layout a bit and started looking for recent threads on the pop up mixer option in kitchen designs. Haven't found ANYTHING since 2012. Is this a feature that isn't popular, are we wasting precious cabinet and potential drawer space? We do have an appliance garage in the same area so maybe we can just keep the mixer there?

I think they are still popular for those who can use one and if I'd wanted one, I'd not hesitate to put one in. I remember reading posts of people who truly love theirs. Me? Nah. I need the space (yeah, you are right, they take up quite a bit of space) for pots and pans, etc.

Aside from the fact that I have an Ankersrum, which wouldn't fit on one of those (but is also a heavy beast), I most likely would not choose to have one as the purpose is to leave them on the pop-up shelf... and I'd make a mess on either side. I like having measuring spoons and cups, pre-prepped beside my mixer, ready to add ingredients. I like spatulas at the ready. So again, I'd opt out. But, I do think they are incredibly handy for those that have difficulty lifting a mixer, and see a use for them in many kitchens.

I think if you search under mixer lift you might find more. We just installed one-but kitchen isn’t done so haven’t actually used it yet :). It’s cool though!

oldhousegal, I commend you. I'd love to be living that way - as they say "every journey begins with a single step". I found a website created by a grad student from Singapore who is studying "food perceptions" of all things. This entire website is dedicated to unraveling the "great pine nut mystery" (don't you love the internet!). Here is a picture of pine nuts. "S" is apparently what you want. "A" is what you don't want. Similar in size.. posting another pic below which is a close up of "A". close up on PNS (pine nut syndrome) inducing pine nut Funny... Target house brand of pine nuts has only had one reported case of PNS but Trader Joe's has had 69 cases.... maybe I'm not ready to give up on Target yet (maybe I am still being naive to believe everything I read on the internet.... looks pretty credible to me though - will link the website below). In my last kitchen I had the lift because there was no place on the perimeter counter to store it, so it had to go in the island. I didn't want it sitting out on the island, so I got the lift. I, too, make a mess and didn't like wiping up the floor after using it, so after lifting it, I would slide it off onto the counter. My mixer also walks when making bread, so this was a good solution. I also didn't like leaving the door open while the mixer was out because it was cumbersome to move around. It may seem like a waste to get the lift if you're just going to use it on the counter, but it is much easier to lift it up this way than to bend over and haul it up to the counter. I didn't get it for my current kitchen because now there is enough perimeter counter space to store it on the counter. It all comes down to if you like the look of having it out and if you have enough cabinet space to give up for it.

Thanks for all the feedback and the tips for searching the site. After reading everyone's comments, I'm thinking that the drawer MW is the way to go, probably purchased from ebay to get a good deal. I saw a mixer lift at a local home improvement store today, and I hated it! It was hard to reach the release and I think I'd have hit myself in the face with it as it popped up if it'd had a mixer sitting on it, so I think I'll just go with a pull out shelf for the mixer and lift it onto the counter myself. I'd probably use it on the counter, anyway, so that there wouldn't be flour and batter splatter inside the cabinet and so we wouldn't break the open cabinet door while using the lift.

OK. here's what I was thinking when I discussed moving the BP, etc. Unfortunately, I do not have time to document the detailed analysis, but if you read the Kitchen Design FAQ threads linked below, you should be able to see why I did what I did. I think we would need to see your floor plan to be able to help in this kitchen which was quite small foor print the cabinet under the lemons is the pop up mixer stand it is beside a lazy suasna with all the baking ingredients and the drawer to the set of drawers to the left of the lift holds bking pans, utensils bows etc. My client has a B&B bakes every day and love that whole space . I on the other hand also bake a lot and just have my mixer on the counter I think it is a decision made best with a good kitchen design not just this one item.A floor plan will give us some idea of the size of the kitchen and I certainly understand the need for drawers for pots .

See attached floor plan. First time using advice on Houzz and didn't realize I had to save photo to my profile or it wouldn't attach. Thank you. We have a lot of space (not pictured is a walk in pantry across from kitchen desk area). I think I need more drawers though so trying to decide if we just don't do the pop up mixer cabinet and combine that with adjacent base cabinet to do a long drawer on top with double door cabinet beneath for pots and pans.
