Can anyone identify this old daylily?

A friend gave me these lilies several years ago and they had already been growing for about 20 years. We never discussed the names of these and he has since passed away.

Harold, that is a pretty tall order. It looks a bit like Burgundy Glow, but it could probably be one of dozens. Do you have any stats to narrow it down: size of bloom, height, season [early, mid, late, etc.].

okbt It's medium height and the blooms are similar in size to Mary's Gold, Prairie Blue Eyes, Bela Lugosi. Heh, those are daylilies I know the names of in my patch. This mystery daylily is distinctive because it has 3 petals a darker pink than the rest of the petals.

The distinctly serrated foliage, and especially the clear yellow coloring with slight orange blending in the first two photos, look very much like 'Sutter's Gold, Climbing' to me. The orange shading tends to be more pronounced under cool conditions. The 1950 timeframe also works for this climber. In an 'ideal' climate, 'Sutter's Gold, Cl' has fairly good repeat; otherwise, it produces an impressive spring flush with very few (if any) blooms thereafter. Sometimes it surprizes with a secondary flush in the fall. Good fragrance, BTW.

Definitely not Blanc Double de Coubert. That rose is nearly all white. This one is a very pale pink. Thanks for trying to ID it. From what I remember from last year,it only blooms in the spring. The darker one in the other picture also seems to only bloom in the spring. This is really a shame since they are both so beautiful and smell heavenly. Nice strong rose scent,not like the newer ones that are somewhat washed out in the scent department for the sake of beautiful, long lasting blooms.

I'm wondering - traditionally a Pyx (host holder) would be a round lidded affair about the size of a pocket watch; usually in gold or silver. Although folk art examples do exist world wide made from available local materials. Thinking also to the "Trial of the Pyx" in the UK where newly minted coins are presented to a jury to confirm they meet required standards. The coins are presented in a box called a pyx. I'd question any religious significance in this case.

4.5 inch bloom, 20 inch scape. Bloomed here in southern Virginia last 2 weeks in 92 degree days and 78 degree nights.

That rules out Burgundy Glow. No other ideas for me.

Just a possible wee suggestion harold100 , for future reference ....this is something I do now because I have a number of daylilies that are unknown now thanks to a husband who mows the labels and dogs that steal the labels. When I plant a daylily I use vinyl blind pieces with the name written on in pencil ( pencil doesnt fade or erase completely ) I put one under the plant when I plant it and one buried at 3 o'clock when looking at the plant . That way if the main tag is destroyed I can still ID the plant . This was not my idea but I sure wish I had known about this when I started with daylilies.
