I love the cabinet color you've chosen and your granite! I'm not the best person to comment, but I DO speak fluent SW, so I'll venture an opinion. First, is your property country (mature trees in back) or suburban (clear cut, view of nieghbour etc) I have a southern exposure for my LR but trees mean little direct light, and much of it has a weird (to me) greenish tinge after reflecting off trees. Something to consider. Second, are you in a northern or southern area? That will also affect the quality of light in your windows. Also, your cabinets and granite seem quite warm toned in the photo--definitely use them to coordinate your color! My impression looking at them is that Silver Strand, which I've tested, wouldn't work at all. Minful Gray might work but I'd be inclined to look at Analytical Gray 7051, Accessible Beige 7036 or Aloof Gray 6197 in addition to Comfort Gray. Hope this helps, good luck!

Ignoring the whole north-facing, dark room issue for a moment. How do you want your family room to look? Whatever you end up with, it has to be something that you like, not just what designers say you should do. All the color advice in the world is useless if you don't like the colors, shades or tones recommended. So my gut feeling is that if you mostly like creamy walls with white trim, then that's what you should do in this family room, instead of trying to embrace darker colors. Creamy, warm, white walls will certainly brighten this space, while darker walls may make you feel it is too dark. Short-term, a lighter colored area rug or two will brighten up the floor and make the room seems brighter and airier. Long-term, I'd invest in more lighting. Two chandeliers, if the room size is large enough. Wall scones, definitely. And a few floor and table lamps for task lighting. You've got dark floors. Stick to light colors on the walls and mid-tones for the furniture. I moved in to a house with one room painted a dark, navy blue. It wasn't cozy, it didn't warm up the room. The color just made the room dark. And no matter how many lamps I added to the room, the wall color just seemed to soak up all the light. It was either paint, or saw the room off the house. So my advice is that if you like light-colored walls, putting up a darker color in an already dark room will not work for you.

Thank you so much!! I've read a lot of Laurel and Kylie's posts :) They have definitely pointed me in the right direction. Somehow I came upon Light Pewter as well. Some blog I read stated that if you wanted a shade darker than Classic Gray, it was a good contender . So, I think I'm going between Classic Gray and Light Pewter. I also love Pale Oak, but I see some peachy undertone or something. I'm also very afraid of a lavender undertone, which is one reason I haven't gone to Balboa Mist, Kylie mentioned it in one of her posts. With my shadows, I think the lavender may come out in Balboa Mist. So, I do think I'm between Classic Gray (which at times i think I see pink :() and Light Pewter, which I haven't seen any undertone. I just don't have confidence in selecting paint!! I hired a professional and they pointed me toward a darker shade with green undertones, and while I wanted to love it, it just didn't give me the fresh look I desire.

Have a peep at 868 Mountain Mist by Benjamin Moore. It can be a little ethereal, depending on the light. Pretty. It’s very similar to Farrow & Ball’s Borrowed Light. They are both from the Blue-Green Hue Family.
