Comments (10)I love the cabinet color you've chosen and your granite! I'm not the best person to comment, but I DO speak fluent SW, so I'll venture an opinion. First, is your property country (mature trees in back) or suburban (clear cut, view of nieghbour etc) I have a southern exposure for my LR but trees mean little direct light, and much of it has a weird (to me) greenish tinge after reflecting off trees. Something to consider. Second, are you in a northern or southern area? That will also affect the quality of light in your windows. Also, your cabinets and granite seem quite warm toned in the photo--definitely use them to coordinate your color! My impression looking at them is that Silver Strand, which I've tested, wouldn't work at all. Minful Gray might work but I'd be inclined to look at Analytical Gray 7051, Accessible Beige 7036 or Aloof Gray 6197 in addition to Comfort Gray. Comments (6)As others have pointed out a north-facing room will have no direct sunlight and little natural light 365 days a year. The good thing about north light, as any architect or artist will tell you, is that the lighting level and color will tend to be the same throughout much of the day, i.e., you will never have hot spots, glare and significantly different lighting levels throughout the day. If it was my house I'd find a cream, white or other light value color to enhance and amplify the overall light level level. Creams and whites come in a wide range of hue and temperature biases. I always recommend that consumers buy several of the small sample containers and do "brush ons" on several surfaces which are parallel and perpendicular to one another and to the windows, since colors always look different depending on where they are located. I did hire Kylie for a cabinet color consult and she did a good job (though I hadn't chosen a counter top at that point), I was more looking for a cabinet color that would be a "white" that would look good in a north facing room and this is from her consult - "SW Alabaster. This is a warm, creamy white. It will help to off-set the northern light coming in, without being as yellow as Dover White." She also suggested Westhighland White as a 2nd choice. SW 7566 but I feel I see a bit of pink...maybe I need my eyes checked. I do like Alabaster, but it seems a bit too warm for some of my counter top selections. What is the "nuance" of SW alabaster.... And does it contradict what Lori says about nuance below? From reading the chroma info from land of color expert @funcolors it seems I want "Colors with a nuance that is light and clear. Meaning choose paint colors that are clear but not vivid or bright", but how to pick one. Don't exactly understand how I figure out "nuance". Also, do I start with a paint color that will work in a northern exposure and then select a counter top to go with, or do I pick a counter top and then pick a cabinet color? I see so many counter tops that I like, yet I can't figure out how to pick the proper paint color that will work with the counter top AND the north exposure. And then to bring in a dark color for the island. Kylie suggested SW Cyberspace or SW Grizzle Gray 7068. I really like Grizzle Gray, but I am concerned it is too muddied and gray for the northern light. Will the gray stand out more? Say I chose something with green undertones (SW Urban bronze 7048) is the blue north light going to counteract to make these colors appear brown? or will the green tones be more prevalent. Bottom line I am still having a hard time figuring out what the natural light will do to the various paint colors. And because the house is under construction and my cabinet color choice needs to be made, I am not in a situation where I can wait until everything is in place....See More

5 years agoI'm using PM-3 Decorators White, Benjamin moore, for trim color with walls in Silver Chain(BM) . Not sure if this is the best hoot to show you but hopefully it will help.

I did Super White BM and Balboa Mist BM (Similar to the classic gray) I have very little light coming in and with tinted windows the light is darker than usual. I went with the brightest white they could make and then the gray I needed was something that could work with Navy and dark floors. I almost went with Classic Gray.. The reason is that I needed the shade to be really light because no natural light was coming into my space.
I love love love all the grays you are thinking of. Here is my kitchen breakfast area. THe walls are Balboa Mist... trim Super White

We are still under construction as the cabinet doors need to put in and the light rail trim is not to our liking. Floor guys are coming so blue tape is everywhere. I just wanted you to see the colors for such a dark space. ~boxer

5 years agoMichelle, Here are two links I checked out in my quest for the perfect color. I visited these online sources then bought paint. My best friend and hubby did not like Balboa Mist. But my instinct said do it. And now the both love the color. My bestie is a designer so I was scared to do this without her blessing but she was telling me to go for it IF I loved it.

artic gray on the ceiling, balboa on the walls and I have no idea the trimnotice the blue is really coming out in the artic gray but the greige is the balboa
