I know it seems great to have all these windows and I am definitely not complaining, but we realize we could have had almost the same effect and light with 8 instead of 10 - and saved a lot of money (in cost of windows and framing) but the architect shows you the drawings and you think wow, that looks good, and you don't think about whether or not it will be practical in use. Our architect came up with that to remedy an really unfortunate addition done by former owner. They stuck on a weirdly designed very 1980's round addition to a 1920's Dutch Colonial - but in a completely different style from original and tried to make it look somewhat like a lighthouse. From the outside, it just looked like a big round mass of stucco, now it looks much better. But I digress... Anyway, that's a good idea about the remote control shades/blinds. Do you know if they work well over time. I like technology, but just want to make sure they are not repair prone. I guess I can search and see if there are any threads about that.

Wood blinds on the patio door would not be pratical unless you don't plan on ever using the door. That long of a blind will have to be mounted high up on the wall so when drawn up your head doesn't hit. iT would be hard to lift and have to be anchored into wood. You can get a vertical blind with a wood grain to match wood blinds on the two side windows. Advantage of a vertical cellular is the stack is about 6 inches so you wouldn't lose your view. You can also get matching cellular shades on the side windows. Another option is to go with a panel track (sliding panels) and do a matching roman shade on the side windows. Disadvantage is the panel track, when stacked to one side will cover up about 20-30 inches of the window. Here is a link that might be useful: Picture of Vertical Cellular with matching shade

I will say I lean toward blues and greens in the rest of my house with some khaki mixed in. My friend says my house reminds her of the beach. lol. My climate in the South. Hot summers and mostly mild winters. Flowersnco: You also asked how we treated the counters. We oiled them on the advice of Pirulla. Her counters were my inspiration. The link you shared is great, but I hate to buy bamboo shades and then cover them with fabric. I will definitely keep that in mind for future endeavors. Neverending: That is a great project. If I don't use that one in my kitchen I am definitely stealing it for my sunroom. BLFenton: lol Thanks for the reality check. You articulated my question better than I did. I looking to bring some complimentary color and pattern into the room. I really do love my new kitchen. It's so better than my old one and I love that we were able to keep some of the details that make this house so special. This was the first house we looked at when we started house shopping. We looked for another year, but finally came back to this one. I loved it for the getgo. Janet_425: The sun does get in my eyes at the sink in the late afternoon. I don't want to cover that window completely because, as some of you have pointed out, I don't need privacy there. I might do some kind of tailored valance there and roman shades on the other two windows. boylanite2: Thanks for the compliment. The paint came from Lowes and the color is Thunderstorm. I don't think it looks at all like the chip I brought home, but that's ok because I actually like it better than the chip. Good luck! Tony: thanks for the link. I will check it out. Marcolo: I think you get me. I definitely think the sink window should get one treatment (not treat the two windows individually). I do like the large graphic patterns at Anthropologie, wish they offered them in more than a panel. Oh and someone said to avoid reds and oranges. I totally agree. I know this will shock many of you who love it, but I'm just not a red person. I am considering bamboo shades, but I'm just not sold on the idea. I really think the room needs some life. Maybe I should wait until I get my accessories in the room. What do you think? I would love, love, love some specific fabric suggestions. Thanks for everything!
