Any potting mix that is peat based will work fine in an EB. I am not up to date on what MG is putting in their potting mix these days so can't really comment on that, but what you want is simply a peat based mix that has some perlite and vermiculite in it. This should be very easy to find anywhere in the US. Don't fret too much if it has some fertilizer added or water crystals as this won't matter much, just avoid mixes with compost in them as they hold too much water in a self watering container. Also don't use anything called a 'potting soil' as these usually have sedge peat or even soil in them and again, they hold too much water in a SWC. It has been a few years, but Wal-Mart used to sell a brand in a yellow/orange bag that was basically just peat, perlite and vermiculite that worked OK in SWC. I think they were/are called 'Perfect Choice' or something similar. That will work OK for you in an EB. Just don't get their potting soil as it is yard dirt with sticks and rocks. Those are usually in a smaller blue bag sold by weight rather than volume.

amaretto, You don't have any masonry supply houses in Sunrise? They should have white portland in stock. What happened with the feed store? Maybe Home Depot puts the bigger bags away for the Winter or holiday season. Did you ask if they had any in stock? I've never tried this source but someone on this forum said they use vermiculite under the liners of pools. Maybe a pool contractor could help. Check out building supplies, don't know if it's still available but they use to sell bags of vermiculite to pour into the cavities of cinder blocks for insulation. It was chunkier than horticulture grade vermiculite but you can crush it. Wear a mask! Billie

this is one you'll either love or spit out -- it's strong Julia's Cranberry Chutney Source: Julia Child from Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home Tart and sweet with a touch of heat. Very good on leftover turkey sandwiches Yield 2 1/2 cups 1 large Granny Smith apple 1 lemon 1 cup orange juice 3 cups cranberries (12 oz) 3 tbsps white wine vinegar 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (more to taste) Halve and core the apple and cut in small dice. Pare 10 or so thin strips with a zester, then trim the ends and cut the lemon lengthwise into quarters. Cut each quarter into thin triangles. Pour the oj and cranberries into a sturdy 2 or 3 quart saucepan and set over medium heat. Add the apple and lemon pieces, the strips of lemon peel, vinegar and seasonings. Stir together and cook covered about 5 minutes until all the cranberries have burst. Uncover, reduce heat and simmer for another 4 or 5 minutes, until thick. Taste and stir in small amounts more vinegar, sugar, salt or cayenne as you like. Cool to room temperature before serving. Keeps several weeks in refrigerator. Can be frozen.

I am in exactly the same place with my red oak floors :( my floors look just as orange as in the pictures... and the variations and wood grain are much more pronounced than I wanted. I have the flooring company coming in on Monday to put down the third coat of poly - do I have any options at this point? Or just a matter of it mattering less once I get more used to the new color...? I had this same level of shock and discomfort with my wall color (had to leave my apartment for the evening just to soothe myself!), but once they sanded the floors - I realized I loved the wall color, just that my old floor finish was clashing with it. Now after staining the floor - I am back to feeling they really clash... and I really wish I had just opted for no stain and a natural finish instead... I’d take that look over what I now have any day. At least - that’s how it feels right now. To the original poster - @lacollar - (or anyone else with a similar experience) - did you eventually get used to (or even fall in love with?! :)) your floors... even though at first it felt like the choice of stain color was a huge mistake? Has anyone tried tinting the final coat to tone down the orange/reds? Does that work? Appreciate any help/advice. Thank you all!
