Hello Segbrown of the Awesome Kitchen. Your kitchen contains the spirit of one of my unrealized kitchens! I have one of your same backsplash tiles, a sample, which I meant to use but the years crept by and that kitchen didn't happen. Back to your seating area. I was admiring your ottoman/table only to see it disappear in your final arrangement. As I am thinking about replacing my coffee table with such a foot-ready rest, I have to ask why you got rid of yours? Surely the feet in your house want a rest when tv watching? I am in the market for swivel/s. What brand/model are yours? Are you happy with them? Much obliged if you come back to comment. I've enjoyed every bit of your house that you've shared.

I see your struggle with the living area, since it is small and right at the opening of the house. You do have nice elements to work with, like your big window and hardwood floors. You're right about painting the walls lighter -- the farmhouse look is airy, bright, and natural. Grey sofas are a good idea. Your art is too small, like shari13 said. It would be beneficial to have one large piece above the sofa that matches the look and feel of the furniture. Get a console table that is 50% larger than the TV on either side, and maybe mount the TV on the wall above the table for a cleaner look (of course, mounting the TV is entirely optional, but the console table length is considered a "design rule"). Getting rid of the recliner was a good idea. Finish the look with a nice, big transitional-styled area rug.

I also think you should look at smaller scale seating. Your current sofa and chair already overlap. It'll probably be even worse with the new sofa and loveseat. For now, I would get curtains that all match and remove that wreath from the TV wall. Better nothing on the wall than one little dinky thing.

@ partim - Thank you for the suggestions. I do not want to carry that big chair back into the room. I think that if I can score some smaller swivel chairs, that's the route I want to go. We do love using the fireplace, but wish it was a little better situated to heat the rest of the home. As it is, it only heats up a small corner of the home in our living room which is only connected to the kitchen (but the kitchen gets none of the warmth). I'm going to go with the love seat where it is for about a week and then give your suggestion to swap the couch and love seat a try. @ tqtqtbw - You've given me some things to consider. The trim throughout the house is the same as you see it in the photos above (a dark stained wood color) - to me I don't like it. Perhaps I should just give all my trim a good dusting/cleaning and a fresh coat of polish. Maybe the color will catch me a bit more. One odd thing about our home is that throughout the rest of the house, all the window sills are a nice white and gray polished stone (not wood). This was not used in the living room addition in the photos above, and unfortunately there are no windows in the kitchen directly (I presume there was a few that were taken out to add the living room onto the house). I live in Ohio, and in thinking over your question about large rooms that are tiled, I don't exactly know what people here do (several of my friends have hardwood throughout their homes - and I helped install them!). The living room addition is above a crawl space. I don't notice the floor being cold in winter now because it's carpeted, but I'm willing to bet that if we tiled that living room the floor wood be freezing in winter. Something else to consider I guess. Thank you very much for the tile color recommendation. That is helpful. I really like gray stone colors but realize I should lean more toward something warm as that will transition better to the wood I currently have. I've also never laid tile flooring but I do have experience with wood and am hoping to put the floor in myself. Ugh. How do people make these decisions?
