Anyone want to help my rearrange my living room?
Comments (29)Hello Segbrown of the Awesome Kitchen. Your kitchen contains the spirit of one of my unrealized kitchens! I have one of your same backsplash tiles, a sample, which I meant to use but the years crept by and that kitchen didn't happen. Back to your seating area. I was admiring your ottoman/table only to see it disappear in your final arrangement. As I am thinking about replacing my coffee table with such a foot-ready rest, I have to ask why you got rid of yours? Surely the feet in your house want a rest when tv watching? I am in the market for swivel/s. What brand/model are yours? Are you happy with them? Much obliged if you come back to comment. I've enjoyed every bit of your house that you've shared....See MoreDo you rearrange your furniture?
Comments (31)I seem to believe in my own home there is ONE perfect placement for things and that is where they stay. The addition of something NEW could easily cause a bumping effect and switch things up but once that ONE sweet spot is attained, I leave things be. At Christmas we have to re-arrange to accommodate a tree--it always feels sooooo good to have it gone and things back "where they belong". The thread intrigued me because I have a friend who I would say has yet to find THAT SWEET spot. From the array of staging she has done in that space I totally understand her challenge. She has an odd mix of "heirloom" pieces and IMHO poor choices. She rearranges often. She doesn't have wall to wall carpet she is trying to save, avoid a wear pattern (a reason some rearrange I hear) she just has a very large space that accommodates a baby grand piano and at least three seating arrangements. It is a very odd shaped space. It is a puzzle. This week I helped her AGAIN. I got her to try something totally new. So far everyone loves it. Will it last? With this friend I doubt it. I think she likes change, and I thoroughly enjoy helping her!!!...See MoreLiving Room Arrangement Dilemma
Comments (14)Well, I can see that you feel the room is a bit crowded. I have been there, trying to get organized with all toys, etc. I really would like to help you. I agree with Olychick that an inexpensive way to create more space in the room is to move that entertainment center. Assuming that's a flat screen TV, you will be surprised by how much circulation room you gain by hanging a TV on the wall. There are numerous ways to appease the MIL. You can say that you LOVE the unit, but desperately needed all that storage in the bedroom, or another room, to handle all the children's books and toys that were otherwise overflowing. You can say you love it, but need to "simplify" to create circulation, and "sigh, I guess this TV on the wall thing is the modern way". You can say you LOVE it, and as soon as you can get another sofa that is the right shape that you need, you will move the entertainment unit back. You can say that you've temporarily moved it, until the kids are done having their toys in the family room (and in my situation, that has never happened....but that's just something to say in order to spare her feelings). I personally love sectionals, especially as the kids grow and like to lounge in front of a TV together. As your kids grow, they will probably have personal devices like phones and iPads, and the only time the family room TV is on in our house is when everyone has something to watch together, like a sports game, or Friday night movie. That's why I love the sectional. But if the TV stays where it is, I think a better format would be to have the lounge side of a sectional on the opposite side of where it is....See MoreLiving room decor dilemma
Comments (3)Try putting TV on angle in the right corner. Then put sofa on angle facing TV. The bag seat can fit under window. I would also consider moving the white table on other wall (where ironing board is now.). You need a cozy rug and a nice tall plant. Maybe some art. Not much wall space so art will have to be scaled properly. Nice space, but tricky to use with limited wall space....See MoreNathan Wylder
