Hoping Someone will be able to ID this Rose bush
Comments (12)Thank you, Carol and lilc5. The picture above actually looks a little more coral than in person. The best color I have found to define it is crimson. It sure is funny how different times of day affects the color. Ann, I'm afraid I mis-led you regarding the petals turning white. When I look at the roses in full sunlight, there is a white cast that I mistakenly thought was fading petals. I guess it's just the way the sun hits the petals. They actually just fade to a darker shade, kind of pink-blue-gray. It's hard to describe but I will post more pics of the fading blooms later. Wish my camera would capture the true color. I just can't seem to get it and I've tried many settings. Looking into the R. multiflora in its parentage lead (thanks, Ann). May have to check out a library book... something I haven't done in years!! I found this article about Polyanthas and I doubt that I will be able to identify it with any certainty unless I learn a LOT more about roses. Maybe I can find this book from H. Scott Hansen. Here is a link that might be useful: About Polyanthas by H. Scott Hansen...See MoreHelp ID: mislabelled roses from Pickerings
Comments (10)Your post caught my eye because I too have several mislabelled roses from Pickering, including a Great Maiden's Blush which was supposed to be Alba Maxima. This will be its second season here and it definitely IS Great Maiden's Blush because I already grow GMB and they match exactly. Years ago I ordered Paul Ricault and got Gros Choux de Hollande instead. I wrote a letter to Pickering with photos and they agreed what they sent wasn't PR....the next spring they sent me a replacement and it was ALSO Gros Choux de Hollande! I ordered Nevada and got its pink sport, Marguerite Hilling instead. I'm not the type to make a stink, so I've just let it slide. In the meantime, the mislabelled roses have become part of my rose family and even though I didn't count on these roses, a beautiful rose is never a mistake in my eyes. I just hadn't planned on TWO of some of them! Celeste...See MoreHoping for an ID
Comments (3)Cherry Cheeks! Of course, I have had that several years but it didn't bloom, along with a few others in a particular location. I'm going to have to improve the soil if I put daylilies back in that spot. I moved it, but apparently didn't move the tag with it. One I did receive in trade, but I'm happy to have it. Thanks for the ID!...See MoreGot some grocery store minis. Hoping someone can ID them.
Comments (7)Hi Beth, We have also gotten some of these minis from the Grocery Outlet and from the Save Mart "Death Rack", when they are past prime; they can have from 4-5 rooted cuttings in them. We have separate the cuttings and allowed them to grow into larger plants outside to "toughen them up" before planting them into our garden. We have a range of colors (several pinks, white, yellow, red, peach); some have flowers up to 3 inches and others are more in the miniature to miniflora range. Some were labeled as "Victory" Roses, others as "Parade". They never provide the precise name of the selection. When we compare these roses to the named miniature and miniflora roses that we grow, we prefer the Victory/Parade types, as they seem to have more petals per flower and open flat without displaying many anthers. They seem to remain in an attractive state on the plant longer than the conventional mini's/minifloras, which seem to "blow" faster, especially in our dry heat. One exceptional pink one, has flowers that have lasted up to 3 weeks on the plant. And, at least so far, they have remained short (less than 18 inches); some of our mini's/miniflora's will grow over 6 feet tall if not pruned regularly. To us, the name of the rose is not all that important, as we are not interested in exhibiting them....See MorePerma n’ Posies/9A FL
