Callisia fragrans, love this weird-o!
Comments (46)Purple, 2011/12 has been the mildest winter ever. During March, we had about two wks at 80-90F, and very high humidity. Then temps dropped, but the lowest was 40F. Then we had a little over a wk in the 90's. This week was mid to high 70's, days, 60's night. It's all over the place. I've never had a Sans that bloomed. Seems few ppl get theirs to flower. Maybe the cold had something to do with yours flowering or a combination. How is your house so humid when temps are cool? lol. Do you run a humidifer? I've never been in a home where oil is used for heating. Is it a dry or humid heat? Don't worry Purple, you can run different experiments with your Callisia. Remember, invasive house plant. lol. Is Callisia hardy? You mentioned it growing as a ground cover. That's one thing I don't have to worry about here; it wouldn't survive normal winters..Normal opposed to this last winter. I'm shocked a good number of annuals returned. But, I wish our winters were always as mild. People in 'Palm Forum' who live in Chicago and as far north as Canada grow palms and certain succulents in their garden. The palm in Chicago is huge. The guy lives by the lake front which is a lot colder and windier than my area..sw burbs. The wind chill makes 35F feel like single digit. I'll try getting a pic today. I'm working inside, taking a break, checking emails and GW..lol. Anyway, Congreats on flowering Sans and Callisia...See Moreweird heartbeat issue-Ahhhhhhhhhh!
Comments (22)Hi Andre, I'm here to tell you that for years, I felt like I had a small animal living in my chest. I saw several doctors and had alot of tests. I have GERD, but its under control. You might need an endoscopy, just to make sure your esophogus isn't erroded, but I don't think its necessary at this point. I have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). My intestines are very weird, fluctuating between diarrhea and constipation, gas, tons of pressure, burping, and constant activity/noise in my intestines. For me, my chest seems to be the focal point of my intestinal craziness. That's what I mean about feeling like I have a small animal living in my chest. I think some of us are very sensitive to internal sensations. I think some of us feel gas/food moving in our intestines, and it can be transmitted up into our chest. Our stomach is really very high up in our chests and many times, its easy to confuse feelings occurring in the stomach, with feelings in our heart/chest. I'm wondering if that's what you're feeling. I know that when I quit eating in the evening, I didn't spend the night with funky things going on inside me, and I would also get a better night's sleep. I think it would be a very good habit for you to get into, to quit eating after dinner. I know its hard, but I think you'd feel alot better......and sleep better. Did you know that our intestines are called "the second brain" because they secrete alot of neurochemicals, just like our brain does? When your intestines are working all night to digest the food you ate all evening........its going to keep you awake. I'm a compulsive eater, but seem to have gotten it under control most of the time. What's interesting is that when I overeat, or eat too many carbs, or eat in the evening, my CPAP machine shows that I don't sleep well.......even if I'm not aware of it. Anyhow.......sorry to get off on a tangent. But I just wanted to mention how sensitive some of us are to the goings-on in our intestines. Some of those sensations can feel like they are coming from the heart/chest. It should be interesting if an irregular beat showed up on the holter, when you sensed something. There are lots of things to do for GERD that don't even involve any tests or even seeing a doctor. Do an internet search on it, and you'll learn all the things you can do to lessen it. Also check out IBS and see if you have any of those symptoms. You also might be developing an intolerance to dairy or wheat. Try cutting back on your carbs. Keep us posted....See MoreCaller ID and Paranoia
Comments (16)Interesting that this happens to other people, apparently fairly often, too! I know it was "Bobby's" mom because I also have caller ID. I answered her call from a phone that doesn't display caller ID, but after I spoke to her, I went to another phone to see who the heck was being so rude to me! It was definitely "Bobby's" mom. She would not have recognized my name on her called ID because my last name is different from my son's. As for her saying that I "just" called her, I assume she read the display wrong or something. My caller ID displays the name, phone number, date and time of the call. I assume that hers does too and she made a mistake about the time of the call. Also, my display stores up to 100 numbers. So I can easily scroll "back in time" and see who called me last week if I wanted to (and had nothing better to do)! I did have an opportunity to meet this mom shortly after the phone episode. We were introduced by first names only. She was very nice and went on and on about how much she just loved my son. I didn't bother to tell her that we had already met via telephone. I thought it best not to antagonize her ;) because I know how volatile she can be! That is what has given me pause. Let me tell you -- she wasn't very nice when she thought she was talking to a stranger. I know that wrong numbers happen all the time but she seemed to really overreact to it. There is something that I left out of my original post. I don't know if this matters, but she is not from this country and does have a problem expressing herself in English. At this point, I donÂt think I will tell her that I was the person on the phone that day because it would probably only embarrass her. Maybe she has figured it out by now anyway. But because of her overblown reaction, I think I would prefer that the boys spend time over here and not there. If youÂve ever been around someone who blows up at the drop of a hat, then you will understand. Thanks for all the feedback. I mostly wanted to vent a little because this situation served as a reminder to me. You can never truly know a person. When I met her in person, she was putting her best foot forward. But I think that day on the phone showed her TRUE colors....See MoreGot a weird phone call just now..
Comments (11)I have gotten calls re my DGD's ex's sister! I don't know her, have never met or even seen her. She lives in California; I have never been in California; as far as I know she has never been in Virginia. I recognized the name and asked my DGD about it and she said it would have been a collection agency because the girl has been in $$trouble for a long time. She has a first name that could be male or female. When the caller asked if I knew HIS address, I knew they didn't even know who they were looking for. I would love to know how they got my number. CR, I hope you don't get any more calls. Hope I don't either. Sue...See MoreElizabeth
