Renting decor dilemma

I have a rental that has dark gray textured walls that I am not allowed to change. Any ideas on ways to “change” them that won’t forfeit my deposit?

Due to the texture temporary wallpaper isn’t working. I need ideas on how to cover them somehow that isn’t damaging. Help!

Let's just paint them ......................and paint them BACK to the dark gray color when you leave. MY lord.: ) Every dime you spend trying to get around painting is just setting money on fire for a hideous dorm style rental screaming result. Go to a PAINT store. Buy pizza for some friends. Pick a color. Have a paint party. Do the same when you exit.

Unless your result is hideous? Your landlord may not even CARE. Forget red, purple, screaming orange etc.

Will there be a TV in the room? It looks like the room breaks down roughly into three 10-ft by 14-ft sections. The dining table and chairs probably would use one of the end sections. I would place the dining table with the long side parallel to window, to break up the long run of space. This would leave a roughly 20-ft by 14-ft are for living. It would be difficult to center seating on the fireplace, as the fireplace would be at one end of the 20-ft by 14-ft area. One possible furniture plan would be to place sofa facing fireplace, with a sofa table or narrow cabinet behind (possibly your dining server). With a 14-ft room depth, there should still be plenty of room to walk behind the sofa. Chairs could then face sofa, flanking the fireplace. Alternatively, chairs could be placed at right angles to fireplace. Note TV not considered in either of these plans. If dining server is not used behind sofa, it could go at opposite end of room to balance some of the dining table weight. You have a really lovely condo, and I hope your existing furniture will fit.

Nice room! I'd leave the walls on either side of the window empty; every space needs room to breathe. And it may just be me but I'd avoid any art that is made to "match". On the wall above the couch, a large horizontal piece of art you love would work, Or try a long narrow picture ledge with a nicely curated collection of your favorite photos and art. There are lots of inspiration photos of finished picture ledges here on HOUZZ. Love your choices so far. Good luck!

I would not paint your cabinets, unless they are in really bad shape and only if you get them professionally done. It's a big job. I would paint the dining room Greek Vanilla. I don't like open spaces broken up. I would paint the kitchen the same Greek Vanilla. Your floors are so dark. Add your accessories in bold colors. As for trim, I probably would use the Greek Vanilla in a semi gloss sheen. Boring I know, but for me, the rooms are all different sizes and different ceiling heights. Less is more in this case. Love the quilts! Love what you have done so far.

I would place two comfy reading chairs with cocktail tables beside them and use it as a reading, coffee and music room. The chairs in the mickup are not perfect with the wood tones but help show the set up. I did three, one without window treatments and rug, one with rug and one with curtains. I prefer with rug not sure about yoyr curtains though.

Very large artwork and bright lighting to show it off will help. Don't jeopardize your deposit. I suspect your landlord thinks the dark gray is terrifically fashionable and doesn't want "landlord beige" or the lighter off whites that are trendier in some areas, but who knows? You can always ask about painting it a color of your choice, then repainting with the dark gray when you move out. Ask, never assume.

This shows the basic color but mind you it was professionally done and they brought in extra lighT. It is NOT this bright in there. Dark gray walls white trim and beige carpet (don’t know what they were thinking)
