Better Cross Pollinator Choice for Royal Lee Cherry
Comments (82)Zaiger was working with different cherry tree cultivars from Spain. It's quite possible—I would even say very likely—they could have used Cristobalina to breed Royal Lee. The descriptions of these cherries sound quite similar to each other in many respects, dark colored flesh, sweet, and good flavor. quote by goyo626: "I tried searching for cristobalina cherry patent info but nothing comes up. Can anyone direct me to the patent info on this variety. The only info I have found is that it is an old spanish variety. Thank you. " I feel reluctant to post this again, because I have already posted in several other places in this message board, but here it goes... There is a low chill Spanish heirloom variety cherry called Cristobalina. It is self-fertile and requires about 200 chill hours. Cristobalina has been grown for generations of cherry growers in Andalucia and Valencia, where winters are as mild as they are in Southern California, and reliably produces fruit despite lack of a cold winter. It is known to flower mid-February and produces dark purple, delicious sweet cherries. The only negative is that the fruit does not have as much edible flesh as other more popular cherry varieties, but thinning the tree can help lead to more full-sized fruit. Of course there would not be a patent on it, and this variety is not widely known in America....See Morehappy Birthday Sara !!!
Comments (17)Thank you, thank you everyone! How lovely to be remembered! It was indeed a perfectly gorgeous autumn day - warm (t-shirt weather) but with the leaves turning gold and orange. Breakfast in bed, with candles stuck into my toast. Son-in-law brought the step-grandson over for lunch (we went out) and then we walked all over our pretty New England town, and ended up buying pumpkins. Then Himself took me out to dinner - today has been all about food! Oh, and we planted about 40 daffodils too. suzy - I've been late to sign up this year, but I'm doing it this year. I introduced a friend to Feeder Watch last year too, so I'm passing on your gift!...See MoreMeyer Lemon Mousse Cake
Comments (37)That cake looks delicious! ! I can almost imagine how delicious and refreshing It would be on a hot summer day. Ever since I first read about Meyer lemons on this forum, I have watched the stores here for them. No luck at all. Yesterday I was in the store, They had "Texas Valley Lemons", which are pretty common around here this time of year. I've never bought any, Because they never look very good. BUT! ! ! Lo and behold! In small letters, Under the name "Valley Lemons" it said "Meyer Lemons". I've never seen that before! They really don't look very good, But they are shaped like those in the pictures Ya'll post here. I bought a couple to try, (Hopefully today.) In the Lemon blueberry muffin recipe Annie posted a few days ago. I'm definitely saving this cake recipe to try later on! Comments (14)Coincidentally, I've been thinking about cake mixes...on another thread I wrote about making cupcakes for my grandson's birthday. I was just going to buy plain cupcakes and embellish them, because I want some vanilla, chocolate and need some # of gluten free. So I am really not up to making 3 batches of cupcakes (mostly because I hate the clean up in between batches). But then I realized I'd have to get unfrosted premade cupcakes from the bakery and I thought, sheesh, how lazy is that, buying cupcakes then frosting and decorating on my own. I can just whip out the plain cupcakes. A MIX, I'll use a MIX. Then I started searching on this forum for people's favorites and found this thread. And there are some references on the internet to TJ's having cake mixes, but I can't find out if they still do. Does anyone know? I love their pumpkin bread mix and buy a few boxes to last when they pull their seasonal stuff....See More- 6 years ago
