Love Neccos!!!

Yeah, I used to like them too. Now they make entire packs of just the chocolate flavor.

They were my candy of choice when my dad allowed us to pick something in the lobby of his office building. Still love them. :)

My FIL loves the black ones. It's been an ongoing project to find them for Christmas. Not any more, he has some health condition that prevents him from eating licorice.

A couple of years ago, I coordinated a volunteer appreciation luncheon. We had those and 16 other candies that are still available in bulk. It was one of our more popular luncheons. Having all those candies there created lots of nostalgia talk.

Loved those as a kid.

The Vermont Country Store sells some of the old candies. They even have some of the old time Woolworth's favorites like Evening in Paris cologne and Tangee lipstick. Every kid should have a 5 & 10 in their life. Sigh.

i liked the black (licorice) and pink (maybe wintergreen?). have seen them at Dollar Tree and at Amish market in Columbus, NJ.

Necco Wafers were first produced in 1847 and are considered by Necco to be its core product. Each roll of Necco Wafers contains eight flavors: lemon (yellow), lime(green), orange (orange), clove (purple), cinnamon(white), wintergreen (pink), licorice (black), and chocolate(brown).

I remember them. The tractor supply store carries a lot of the old style candy and that is one of them. I loved that cloves gum remember it?

I was given two boxes of candy from the 1950's and 1960's that were purchased on Amazon. They contain many of our childhood favorites. , Unfortunately, the sender did not know I don't eat candy. Not for health reasons, I just don't enjoy it.

Loved them as a kid, love them now. Dollar Tree here has them, sometimes CVS Pharmacy does too. I've heard that Cracker Barrel also has them. I almost hate to buy them, because I have a hard time not eating the whole roll once I open it! The black, purple, white and pink are my favorite flavors, I've been known to sort through a whole display looking for the rolls with the most black ones in it.

Yes, I remember eating them as a very small child. Didn't see them for decades. But then, when my daughter was in grade school, I noticed them on the candy shelf -- maybe in a gas station store? Necco wafers became a family car trip tradition for a couple years.

Our local Dollar Tree has them -- I buy them because I have always loved them!! One time, they had bags of small packages of them, but I haven't seen those since...so I'm force to buy the big size.

I haven't forgotten them. They sell them at my drugstore. I love them. Just had them about a week ago.

I remember them but they weren't what I chose when I went to the candy store. One of my grandkids selected them from the little market nearby the riverhouse this summer. He liked them.

I don't eat them but hubby loves his Necco wafers :-)

I remember them, but I didn't care for them. Like Littlebug, I thought they were chalky.

I remember the smell from their factory in Cambridge....the wafers are not my favorite candy, but that smell was something!

We have a Ben Franklin in the town south of us. I was just there yesterday. My grands love to take a trip there with Grandma when they visit. It has become a tradition!

Just thinking...We all remember these from childhood. Some of us think they tasted like flavored chalk. So, I guess we had all tasted chalk by the time we tried Necco. I vividly remember biting into a stick of chalk when I was in the first grade (circa 1955). Maybe that explains my resistance to "chalky" calcium supplements today. Back to the original post...

Would eat them if they were the only candy offered (in the 50's) but wouldn't choose them over other candy, especially chocolate.....

I guess I am the only one who doesn't remember them. I will make it a point to find them though. Does anyone remember Napoleon Bonbons? Sour lemon candy.

I buy them every December for my gingerbread house roof. They look like slate-my favorite roof but hate the taste.

I vaguely remember them and I also wasn't crazy about them either, but it seems like the ones I had were lavender flavored, maybe that was something else? The same consistency was also in the candy cigarettes, can you imagine those being handed out nowadays at Trick or Treat?? One of the weirdest things I remember were the wax lips, do they still sell those??

I just seen these at Cracker Barrel yesterday.

I loved them when I was little and still do today. Did you know that the original conversation hearts were made by Necco? And still are today.

It's hilarious that someone mentioned having them in the car for long trips because Dad always stocked up prior to our long drive to Ohio every year. Four kids crammed into the car from morning until late afternoon....oh my. Neccos were a great tool in keeping us quiet for a little while.

I loved them. My grandfather, who lived on his boat all summer, would walk over to the "gas pier" with us and allow us to choose a candy. I frequently chose Necco wafers. My siblings hated them!

lol ....after talking to a gal that said she gained tons of weight eating those. She said they were addicting. :0) :0) I think of her every time I see those. yuck

I remember as a kid on Halloween, when there was no choice and you had to take what was offered at each house, the two candies I would throw into the bushes at the first opportunity were Necco Wafers and candy corn. Double yuck to both.

Cleo's use of them for roofing brought me an image of a white cake decorated with 'balloons' of the pastel wafers. The 'strings' were made of colored icing.

When I was a kid I can't imagine throwing ANY candy away "into the bushes". First of all, if my parents found out I'd get a lecture, second we never got much so any candy was pretty much fine with us.

I remember them but didn’t like them. I feel the same about candy corn or any other over-ly sweet candy or fake fruit flavors. I guess I have never been into candy all that much except for a little dark chocolate now and then. And Reese’s.

JoanEileen, I remember my sister and brother talking about playing "communion" with the Necco wafers too. Of course, my brother was the priest, so my sister got more wafers than he did.

My Mexican Train group thoroughly enjoyed them today.
