I had to laugh at number 2.

I've lost a half package of swiss cheese. I know its not finished but have no idea where I put it but it isn't in the fridge. I figure I'll find it when it starts to smell.

That purse thing sounds like me on statins. I could decide to do something stand up and start out of the room. By the time I reached the doorway I had no idea what I was planning on doing. Sometimes I did other things. Other time I just returned to my chair. There were so many times that I would stand in a room wondering why I was there.

I recently needed cream cheese for a recipe. I knew there was a package in the fridge and looked high and low but could not find it. Figuring I was mistaken about having cream cheese, I bought a box, came home from grocery shopping and opened the fridge door to put the new cream cheese in there. Right in front of my nose was the cream cheese I knew I had!

Not long ago, I bumped into a post and said "excuse me."

I had a bag of clothes for DGD to return for another size. The returns counter was closed so I decided to go ahead and get the right size while I was there. Came home and I had replaced the wrong sized items with the same size!!! I also forgot to grab the two other shirts I set aside purchase after finding the other things.

So tonight I went and returned doubles of three different items on plus two others. Had 4 receipts and had used 3 different credit cards.

LOL I don't have anything "new" right now, but you people have sure made

me feel better about the dumb things I do.

Drove an 1 1/2 hours to see my mom on mother's day and take her a book I had just read and enjoyed. When I left, I picked up the book and brought it back home with me. Had to make another trip to give her the book - again.

I set my little fan in the open window, and then turned it off when I left the room. WHY? I don't know... I actually wanted the cooler air to come inside.

I am planning a trip to the upper peninsula of Michigan, and went to AAA for maps. On my return route, I plan to drive to Goshen Indiana, but came home without the Indiana map. Had to make another trip there.

DH put my cat in his carrier, then into the backseat of the car. Cat was going in for his 3 year shots. DH went to get a towel to put over the metal mesh door, I had my arm across the door so the carrier didn't fall off the seat....I see an A$$/raised tail....and he sprayed US! And the leather car seats....pee running down the bucket seats.....going to be late for our appointment if we don't get going. Arrived smelling.....pretty nasty....

Remember to put the towel over the carrier ....then load into the car!

Do those memory foam slippers help? lol

I've lost my car keys and found them in the refrigerator. I'd set them down there when I made room for a gallon of milk after returning from the grocery.

I've been able to solve the "Why did I come into this room?" puzzle by returning to where I was when I set out. The theory is that our primitive brains still 're-set' when we go through a doorway, just as they did when we ventured out of our caves and needed to use our whole brains to be alert to possible predators.

I suspect that women are more likely to be distracted by things outside 'the mission' because we are observant of household disorder. It's the hunter-gatherer brain. I think the male brain focuses more tightly on a single 'mission'. We've discussed how our menfolk will do the immediate task and ignore everything peripheral to it.(He'll clean the window *glass* but not the fingerprints on the frame. Unless...unless...he's detailing his *car*!)

My DD caught me talking to a mannequin once. Hey, “she” was standing there right by my shoulder. I swear she answered me!

Just recently I was dialing my landline phone, put it up to my ear and then realized it was my tv remote. To my defense, they are both the same color and shape lol.

Not me, but friend, last week, put her bra in the bathroom sink to soak.

Much later that afternoon, she went to put it up to dry and the bathroom was flooded, as well as her bedroom. Then her downstairs under the bathroom had flowing water.

She had forgotten to turn the faucet off and ran hot water for 4 or 5 hours.

What a mess!

matti, my 92 yr old mother struggles with some things lately and she told me she'd had trouble calling me, and had done the same as you, was using her remote. I told her not to worry, that I'd watched my DH do the same, The look on his face when he realized he was dialing the TV remote was priceless.

Last month we went to a destination wedding. On a ranch but not a western theme. We allowed time to get lost and didn't so arrived slightly early. The parking attendant pointed us up against a corral with two beautiful horses in it, the sun was shining, and I decided to stay in the car and place a call to my mother before going in. I'd kicked off my shoes on our way. She chatted longer than she usually will, another couple had shown up and were standing outside the car waiting (and it was windy), I was trying to end my call and slip into my shoes...which were a patent wedge heel that somehow exactly matched my new dress. Should have been one of those times when a girl feels pretty. I was just vaguely uncomfortable all evening but nothing like feet hurting or anything. We arrived at our hotel and were getting ready for bed when I realized I'd had my shoes on the wrong feet - for about 6 hours.

Amylou, I do that quite often. I try to kid myself and call it multi-tasking, but it backfires when I don’t get the real task done or item retrieved I went after in the first place.

I have caught myself putting the sugar bowl into the refrigerator more than once. And I often get up to go do something or fetch something, only to be distracted on the way by something else and completely forget what my original intention was. I just attribute that to having a lot on my mind.......nothing to do with old age or anything like that :-)

Just happened awhile ago. I stopped at a small market to get some sandwich meat and cheese. Went to grab my wallet and instead picked up a paper invoice laying on the car seat. I had the car door open and was half-way out of the car before it dawned on me. Oh my goodness. I thought, I gotta go home and post this on KT. : )

set my eyeglasses on a plant in the garden. Worse? The temples are green and brown.

Made a list for the grocery store. Shopped, came home with everything on the list. EXCEPT POSTAGE STAMPS (yes our store sells them). They were written at the TOP of the list in BIG letters and UNDERLINED so I'd be sure not to forget them! SHEESHE!

I don't have too many lately- or at least haven't realized it. When DD was little and I was chronically exhausted, I put a lot of refrigerated items in the pantry and vice versa.

I do leave things in the microwave on a regular basis though. Usually a rewarmed cup of coffee or tea, hummingbird water, or a microwavable heating pad.

Oh, I recently I had that classic "can't find my glasses" moment when they were on top of my head. DD was in hysterics.

Dawn, the episode with the cream cheese reminded me of something that happens here sometimes. We lived in a RV here for awhile. There was very little room in the refrigerator so we had a full sized one in a nearby storage building. I had been to the store and got a freebie of Velveeta, for buying something else. So that night, I told Jody to go out to the other fridge and get the Velveeta and I would make some nachos. He came back in a little while, and said he couldn't find it. I thought, he couldn't find his behind with both hands, but I didn't want it bad enough to go look myself. I remembered exactly where I had put it. You would have to have been blind not to see it.

The next day I went out there, and sure enough I couldn't find it either. There wasn't much in the refrigerator and I looked very carefully. I thought maybe I had forgotten and left it on a table by the fridge and a raccoon had gotten it. Oh, well...

That night I sent Jody out there again to get something and he brought it in, and he said, "oh, and by the way....the Velveeta is back." And it was...right there in plain sight....right in front where I remembered putting it.

There is a name for this. It is called Disappearing Object Phenomenon.

I've experienced a few of the above. One of the worst was just last week. I had set out 2 small cans of sauerkraut the night before so I'd remember to fix them. They were in plain sight. I cut the hot dogs up and put them in the pan. Then I went looking for the kraut. I was looking in cupboards, even in fridge, none there. As I walked past the pan, thinking I was going to have to fix something else..........you guessed it. The kraut was already in the pan. Whew, what fun life can be!!

Marilyn, I'm glad to know there is a name for these incidents. It's rather disconcerting to realize that one looked right at the 'missing' object and didn't see it because the brain didn't register said item. Next time it happens, I'll remember about DOP. ;-)

I think this one is on my DH. Several months ago he bought a package of stainless steel nails for his nail gun, to nail some interior trim on the boat. Then we lost them. We hunted, and hunted, the house, the truck, the trailer, the boat. Pretty much everywhere. I was a little useless because I really didn't know what I was looking for. He really didn't want to buy more, because they are pricey.

Just by absolute accident a week ago he found them on the boat. They were in the box marked "electrical repair parts". Of course they were, because who doesn't use a nail gun for electrical repair??

Sadly I have had the water incident, thankfully not as bad. I put a bra in the bathroom sink to wash, got in the tub, enjoying my lovely bath I heard water. I forgot to turn off the faucet. Flooded the bathroom and bedroom. Floors buckled in the bedroom.

Now that you mention it, we flooded the bathroom, too. We were preparing for a hurricane, and wanted to fill up the bathtub to have water since we have a well. We have a large garden tub, so we turned it on and let it rip. We both forgot about it. I'm not sure exactly how we suddenly realized it was overflowing. Didn't do any significant damage, a little water stain on the ceiling below, and water clear down to the basement. A whole lot cleanup , but no buckled floors or ceilings falling down.

Dawn, another time, I bought several packages of Frontline for the fleas on the cats. I had a lot of cats....it was considerable expense. All of the packages...5 or 6 were in a small box on the island in the kitchen. Going to treat the cats...every package was gone. I blamed Jody...he said he hadn't touched them. Looked everywhere. We both did. While we were looking, Jody went ahead and put the box in the trash. Later, I burned the trash. That was several years ago, and to this day...have never found them. I really do believe if we had left the box on the island, they might have showed back up in the box. Weird things happen here and that isn't even the strangest thing that has happened.

@Dawn - after your incident with the cream cheese I did open the fridge to see if my swiss cheese was right in front of my eyes - nope, it wasn't.

@watchmelol - My brain got twisted reading about your returns and your receipts and the sizes of stuff - I'm impressed that you kept it all straight.

My friend got up one morning ready to heat a cup of water in the microwave and scroll through her phone while she stood there. When the microwave started to pop and smell, she realized she had put her phone in the microwave and was staring off in space holding her cup of water. OOPS!

I'm happy I'm not alone. I often put coffee in the microwave and then forget to get it. I sometimes forget to stop filling up our koi pond so it overflows. When I boil eggs now I stay in the kitchen and wait till the water boils because even if I'm in the next room I forget about them and a few times the water boiled away.

quasifish How about reaching to take your glasses off and you didn't have them on. Done that lots. Funny feeling.
