We had quartzite installed late last year and the range side finish is same as yours. I'm not a pro, but guessing it's standard?

That's one of those unfortunate things that might have been avoided if there had been better coordination by the cabinet maker, the countertop folks, and whoever reviewed the appliance specs. It's true that they could have done a closed end on the counter, but I'm guessing they had a reasonable expectation that the stove top would be flush with the top of the counter. However, even if they had closed the end, I still think it would look bad having the stove low in relation to the countertop. If you can raise the stove so it is flush to the counter, it will solve your problem and look better, too. If you think it will look bad at the bottom because there is too much clearance of the stove above the floor, you can have a trim piece made out of some complementary material to fill the gap.

Raise the stove. And that looks like quartz, not quartzite. Why would you want the stove lower than counter anyway?

Did you have plywood atop your cabinets and then the quartz? WHY??? There is no need. Measure floor to counter top. Bet me it's higher than 36 Inches.

See if your oven has feet that can be adjusted for height or maybe you can add a sub floor for height.

Your range HAS to be raised. That is a fire hazard.

Close the gap with material or silicon , then raise the stove ! It's not acceptable to leave the sides like that . They should have been finished ....anyhow ...plywood ?? Why ?

What is the finished height of the countertop measured from the floor?

The stove needs to be raised to avoid heat damage to the quartz whether the side was finished with quartz or not.

It should have been finished! Grease and moisture can work it’s way in between the counter and plywood and cause it to warp and disintegrate. Raising your stove will merely hide problem until your counter fails.

Thanks all. Yes, we can raise stove so it’s flush with counter which does looks better and hides the problem (however now the stove looks like it’s on stilts). However the open edge is still there and as someone mentioned could collect moisture, grease, etc from cooking. Thinking ahead in years would it be better to ask them to come back and fix it right now (if right is in fact having it finished off in the first place like other edges) than deal with potential problems later. What if a future stove does not raise as high?.

Were these custom or premade counters that were cut to fit? Any stove needs to be installed flush with the counter surface...

These were custom. I bought the slabs to create the counters.

The plywood is a thickness compensator for the choice of doing a built up edge. If you choose to do the built up edge, they don’t make all the counters thicker. Just the edges that show. Plywood is standard to be used in that instance.

The edges next to appliances or panels or tall cabinets are not supposed to show. That’s why they aren’t finished with a built up stone edge. That too is standard. If the unfinished plywood bothers you, paint it to match. You’ll never see it, so that’s wasted effort.

Then raise the range legs so the surface of the range is taller than your counters. As is required. COtherwise you will scorch the quartz. Quartz is not a non combustible material. It has a great deal of plastic in it. Which can and will burn in the right circumstances.

If the "stilts" bother you, have a slide in stainless toe kick made to cover. Raise the stove and move on: )

The plywood is pretty standard. It's hard to tell from the picture, but I'm guessing that the counter couldn't be any lower with those cabinets because it would conflict with the cabinet drawer/door fronts.

Completely unprofessional. That appliance edge needs to be laminated quartz.

Simply raising the stove doesn't solve the problem of grease and crumbs unable to be cleaned from raw plywood. Gross.

Sit on final payment until it's corrected properly. This is countertops 101. Geesh.

Just about every fabricator here specs and states number of finished/ POLISHED edges. They do this at template, and repeat at time of sign in blood before cut and polish............

The side of my Corian ( yes lowly Corian ) , is 100% finished at slide in range. I'd call this op scenario consequence of the build up. : ) with no explanation. I've never seen it happen either.

Maybe your stove has adjustable legs and you can raise the stove an inch or so to be even with the counter. The plywood should never show like that.

Somebody didn't compare the height of the cabinets and the thickness of the counter top material to the height of the stove. As stated, that's a gas stove top and it is a fire hazard to have it that low next to that counter top. The quartz with scorch and the plywood will burn.

I didn’t have your exact problem but I was worried about crumbs and heat next to my quartz, so I got these from amazon. As long as the counters are within max height of range they are built correctly.

Unacceptable, Unprofessional, Unfinished

I just had quartz counters put in at my rental and it was a rather economy job for the company but they still finished the edges by the range. They also wanted the range in place so that they could template right up to the edge. It fits like a snug glove. I would want that fixed for all the reasons mentioned. Anyone who has replaced a range has seen the gunk that accumulates there, even in the cleanest of kitchens.

I had the installers come out to look at it, they insisted that they did it how it’s supposed to be done, raised the oven and literally walked out the door while I was still discussing it with them. so I talked with the project manager yesterday and she also insisted that this is how it’s done and if they were to finish the edge my stove would not have fit. So looks like I’m stuck with the unfinished edge or getting a trim piece, so I’ll have to look into those.

Notify BBB, do a review on Yelp and air your issue on social media. Not necessarily in that order.
