$45 million dollar home for sale
Comments (22)LMAO Sue, I did have to go look at it. I have to admit...I could live there :) (I'm a bit short of funds at the present moment though) :OP I didn't think it was impersonal. I thought it was very tasefully dressed, and elegant. Exactly the feel I wanted for French House. (Our dream home in Duluth). When you see pics like these they're often staged and don't include the family "things" you expect in a home. I'm sure they have walls of photo's and art somewhere...it's not cool enough for the website :) I did expect to see what dee described...lots of money, no taste so I was very suprised to see the opposite. Honestly...I could live there. Mind you I couldn't afford to keep it heated or cooled, but I'd sure enjoy it in the spring (isn't that the only nice weather in the region?) and DH would kill for the golf....See Morekitchen in a sixteen million dollar house!
Comments (30)There's no question in my mind that the kitchen simply doesn't match the grandeur of the rest of the house. And the rest of the house really is grand! Stately and gorgeous. The kitchen is so blah! As others above have stated some design flaws such as lack of counter space, ovens, burners, etc. I'll state the more shallow view. Where's the WOW factor? On a home tour I took a couple of years ago there was one house we visited, maybe in the $3-4 million range, which had the most incredible LOOKING kitchen I've ever seen. They took a beautiful granite with a lot of color and movement and made it the theme of the kitchen. It was not just on the counters and backsplash, but on the back side of the island so that it faced into the family room. I wish I'd taken pictures of it but it just gave that whole part of the house a touch of class and panache. The kitchen was a real work of art, and that really fit well with how the rest of the house was outfitted. Admittedly, that granite was to a specific taste and I'm sure there are plenty of people who wouldn't like it. But boy did it make a statement. The kitchen you're showing is just as dull as, well, dishwater, considering the thought and attention to detail that clearly went into the rest of the house. The funny thing is, I'm usually the one who walks into one of these kitchens and says, yeah, it's beautiful but is it functional? The answer usually being, NO. But let's face it, when you pay $16 million for a house, you ought to be able to get both....See MoreIn desperate need of help changing very poorly designed kitchen
Comments (48)cpartist no, hubby doesn't do any cooking, as he leaves the kitchen a complete disaster, uses a hundred dishes, and always manages to use the wrong pots or pans, so has been permanently banned from using it. You would think he wouldn't care what I wanted done with the kitchen, but he is definitely opinionated. He is sweet, though, and did the pantry as a surprise for me, because he thought it'd make me happy. That's what makes my situation so difficult, because I feel bad and a bit selfish for wanting to tear it out. Again, the u-shape is out, because he has set his feet against changing the pass-through. I also don't want to hear another rant about how much he paid for the header beams (apparently they're very expensive) and how he's not moving them ever. Maybe I could convince him to turn it into a doorway and close up the other doorway, but even with the pantry removed, I think it would leave less room for cabinets than I have now. Do you think that would be a good option nonetheless?...See MoreTips for arranging poorly designed living room
Comments (13)I notice you have a booster seat in your dining room indicating at least one small kid. Because of this, I would keep the sofa where it is. Put a kid friendly ottoman or train table or LEGO or art table in front of it with 2 tiny stools/chairs tucked underneath. Put a shelf on the wall between the radiator and door with baskets or doors to hide books, toys, etc. key word HIDE. Then put great artwork that is both fun and that you want to see as an adult above it. This becomes an awesome place to sit and cuddle and read with baby QP. Get wood radiator covers to match your woodwork. On the other side of the room by the fireplace I’d get some kind of comfy big chair with ottoman, or chaise lounge, something like that. Put it on the left of the fireplace and the little desk between the door and radiator, with a desk chair. It could be a mail drop. I would leave the middle of the room pretty open. Can’t see your ceiling or light but it looks like an opportunity to take it to a higher level from what I can see. See http://www.woodenradiatorcabinet.com/products/prairie etc. I have these in my house and they make living with radiators in the way feel pretty good....See Morebpath
