Typically, accent colors are used on areas to highlight. Now, the color & character of your house is quite handsome, so the question is do you want anything taking away from that?

With the colors you picked, the natural wood actually kind of fades away against your house, but the white balustrades & still make sense. Painting the actual handrail & steps (especially white) is going to require yearly upkeep. You could try something similar to this photo I found - staining the handrail & steps a tone or 2 darker than they are already & keeping the stringer, balustrades, etc. white to tie it all together.

This would make the stairs fade away against the brick, keep them easily maintainable & still add that final flavor to your home.

I am a big fan of natural wood so I would simply stain them a tad darker so they looked finished.
I would also paint the roof of the deck light blue.

Thanks for the input so far. I am a fan of a natural wood look as well and certainly don't want to draw too much attention to the steps which was my concern with too much white. I do want to make sure they look "finished" enough though. Would you suggest painting the risers white and then staining the steps and decking or staining the steps, decking, and risers all together? I feel like I often see the risers a different color than the steps...

Upkeep is definitely a concern. I know it is inevitable but would like to minimize how often we are re-painting this area of course.

As for the roof, our initial plan was to paint it light blue but we got concerned how that would look against the green. We have also discussed staining that - it would probably be darker than whatever we do on the deck, but we have not made a final decision.

So many decisions to be made!
