Apartment living room help- design around grey couch
Comments (12)Thank you so much for all these ideas. I have eclectic taste but like contemporary, midcentury modern, global, a mix of these or other styles. For the space the astro console looks super cute. Here are some random things i've been collecting in carts that I like: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N79WZFS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 (I like rust color- don't know how to coordinate with grey etc.... but can swing to blue, red , green, darker grey, etc.) https://www.westelm.com/products/phoebe-chair-s2643/?pkey=e%7Cphoebe%2Bchair%7C3%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C3&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH (red could be nice too-just don't know how to tie in coordinating colors in the room) This coffee table looks neat but then what kind of console to get and is white the better color to design around or is taupe, dark brown better: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QUE7NFK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_12?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Here it is in cement color: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBF5JHF/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_16?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3SQ9YFE6CSCS0 I was hoping to decorate wall or nick naks with mediative/mind-body items like a painting of buddha or lotus and or horse painting. https://www.houzz.com/products/marmont-hill-fire-horse-by-irena-orlov-painting-on-wrapped-canvas-24x16-prvw-vr~84354093 https://www.icanvas.com/canvas-print/sitting-buddha-val346#1PC3-40x26 https://www.amazon.com/Sea-Charm-Peaceful-Decoration-Artwork/dp/B01MYGO95D/ref=sr_1_11?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1507078846&sr=1-11&keywords=lotus+print Thanks so much for the ideas! Comments (36)Some other information I think might be helpful: * We don't have any children (possibly in the future but even then, not for a couple of years) so a playroom isn't needed. *There are four other bedrooms (including the master) in the house plus this bonus room. Three out of the four bedrooms I've decided on what to use them for (guest room, master bedroom, and office/library) with one bedroom and the bonus room being unused. *We have considered the shed dormer idea but we really like how the two dormers look right now being "two" instead of one big joined dormer. In the future, if we run out of space or have children and we need an extra bedroom, we may revisit that idea. *We are considering using it as a storage room as well. I was just hoping to make use out of it creatively somehow but it's very hard for me to look past the bulkiness of the room. I'm a huge fan of clean lines and symmetry so this room is a challenge for me lol. justerrilynn I wish we could move the door to the left as that would free up some space by the built ins to put a bed. The only problem is the master bedroom is right where the new door would go. You'd have to enter the master to enter the bonus room and that just wouldn't work. Now that I'm thinking about it, a barn door on a slider might be the best option to properly fit a small bed where those built ins are located right now. Thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to mention this to our contractor. bonnie_ann Our master bedroom shares a wall with this room and it happens to be the only wall that our bed will fit on. Plus we have decent sized walk in closets in the master already. Otherwise that would have been a great option. suezbell We didn’t really have any plans on how to use this space but we wanted to create something with it. I was hoping for a workout room or a place to do yoga but I’m just trying to figure out how to make that space work. It may just have to be a guest room but the built ins would need to come out for bed placement. I just want to get every square foot out of our house and I’d hate to just store odds and ends in here without at least trying to make a cohesive space. I’m just torn over if guests would really want to stay in this kind of room? Maybe it’s just me, but I’d feel a little claustrophobic lol....See MoreGlam and modern decor around a brown sectional! Comments (10)The first thing I would do is get white shades for your windows or sheers or drapes. Then I would get a more brighter colorful art work for over the fireplace and remove some of the things there. For the TV wall, I would get a longer slightly lower cabinet to sit the TV on. If you want to you could put an end table on the end of the couch after the cabinet is relocated. Get a lamp for the table and a matching floor lamp to replace the one you have. I don't know what room is behind the couch, but could you put a console table on the back side of the couch? Plants in the corner and on the console table would be nice. Also pick a color from the new art work and get two or three matching pillows for your sectional. Since you don't seem to have room for a coffee table, I would pull the ottoman out farther....the one that matches your couch. Just some ideas....See Morehelp me design around this huge piece!
Comments (27)I htink the red sideboard makes that room! everything else is sedate, so that bold color adds a bit of interest. However, your artwork is the wrong color for that red. I don't like those peach tones, or the greens in it. Plus, I just don't think it does justice to the console. you need this type of coloring bolder reds/orange/pinks. I don't think the harsh black/white w/gold works in your room. it's too modern looking Snce I see a pink throw, what about this red/fuschia, pink/white? I actually love this coloring w/everything else in your room. to tie into the orange chairs, get one w/a tad more orange in it. Then you need to style the top of the piece, as well as the sides of it. I'd do a tall plant in the corner. (you have enough chairs in this room! ) I wouldn't do red pillows. too much red is too much. you have the chairs and the huge sideboard. the only other red that needs to be here is in art, or a few decor items. I like your white rug/sofa, but I think the dark coffee table should be replaced w/something lighter styling the top of the sideboard. ssee how they styled this piece? plant to the left, art,, (only 6" above the top please) and some pieces arranged on top or these? I have a vintage mcm buffet and hung a vibrant Mark King Lithograph above it I'm not saying you need this color, (too many blues/greens) but you see how bold it is? Everything else in my room is neutral, like yours. Make the artwork part of the piece. for the other wall, pick something in similar colors, or subject matter. as long as they coordinate, you could do whatever you want. Maybe over the other piece you could do something like this or, try something like this over the smaller piece. (minus the chairs)...See MoreClaire Pope
