Sink Pendant and Island Pendants - Same Size?
Comments (5)These are entirely closed lights so there won't be light escaping anywhere but at bottom. How much wattage do the lights offer? I think you will need at least 75 Watt (incandescent) over sink and also in vicinity of range. The sink and range are offset, right? Will they look okay from a distance or do you need the sink one to be less distinctive? If not, I'd choose the larger one for the sink ... or an entirely different one that stands out against the blinds, perhaps in shiny metal or something in stainless or a warm brown that coordinates with that next room's decor. If you were to make the choice to use something different at sink, I'd use 3 matching ones over island. We have 3 matching pendants in one area--but we put in a sep switch for the two on outside and a separate one for the singleton at sink. Not sure if this is wise or not, but it does give me more flexibility because I can dim them up or down; I use the doubles more than the single or the full set because that's over two work areas, one is for baking and one is over dishwasher. Proviso: I reserve the right to find a new oddball light for the sink. Besides these triplets we have 2 more on peninsula so we have a total of 5 same-size smaller pendants in all so losing one at center won't bother me. O.T. Like the blinds! My favorite part of the room! If you made them I'm especially impressed. Snotty comment here: hope you enjoy dusting. That black would be always dusty in my kitchen. But...it's very distinctive and it gives you some dark notes against the whites....See MoreNeed to decide spacing of 2 pendant lights on part of island soon!
Comments (12)I would not do a pendant in this kitchen, you wont get the impact because you can only do one and it cannot be large or it would look out of place over the counter top. another factor is your ceiling height, which I assume to be 8ft, this means a large pendant really wont work as you will not get much cord drop. I know you are looking for pretty here, I get that, but this room will change a lot once the wall goes back in and the counter is placed. if i was you I would have them center an electrical box where you want the pendant on the idea that they can come back in and change it to a remodel pot if you decide against it....See MoreHow far apart should I space pendant lights over Long Island?
Comments (14)What you should do is place the pendants absolutely centered on the island but place them 1/3 of the way in from the seating area. Then place a high hat directly above your sink for good task lighting. That's what I did and it works beautifully. Those sitting at the island get good lighting and you working at the sink get good lighting and no one will ever notice if it's slightly off because no one ever stands exactly dead center looking....See Morespacing between rough-in pendant lights over kitchen island l
Comments (7)Thx, Beverly. The rough-ins are 32 inches center to center so the spacing between the lighting would not be 30 to 32”. It will be less. Do you still think 32 inch centers on an island this size is good spacing? I’m thinking 12 to 14 inch wide pendants is the maximum I should go. Just wondering if they will be too small considering this oversized island....See More- 5 years ago
