Pendant Lights Above Island with Short Ceiling
Comments (65)@Porter, I didn't get the LED Edison bulbs yet-the store where we got the pendants gave me 3 halogen bulbs to see if it was better for me as I didn't like the yellow light at all. I am still going to order them when I do a Prime order to see the difference. That fixture is in a nook--off centered from the pendants--it comes with a chain ;however I am undecided if a table is going to go there or it will stay open, so had it semi-flush mounted. Does it look odd or out of place? @Beth, Right now they are 34" so when the quartz is installed, it should be about 32 33" from counter to bottom of lights. They seem high, but any lower they are going to be in our eyes....See MoreKitchen Island pendant lighting decision
Comments (7)I'd go with smaller to med 2 lights 10" or if you are doing a lantern as they have little visual obstruction and you can get a way with a bit larger light. A single at only 11" will be terribly dwarfed on an island just shy of 7 feet. You can do the balloon on a string test and push pin them to the ceiling over the island: two balloons blown up to 10" so you can better visualize if you think you need to go smaller or larger a little you can then try it again. You want about 30" between your fixtures... a pinch less is no big deal....See MorePendant Lighting Help! 2 or 3?
Comments (7)HMolly here is an example of the Flynn over exactly what i describe in the first the sink and cabinet hood line up and two large pendants are able to frame that for a nice symmetrical look. In this second photo of the Flynn they have used three because the sink and cook top are off center of the center of island and each other that is camouflaged by using three centered on the entire island . With ten feet ceilings if you don’t need to worry about the above predicament i always think going as big as possible looks better and makes a statement so my choice would be two large is the layout handles it. It’s a more current look as well as being less visually busy. Two more shots of the Flynn over an island for you...See MoreHow to decide on the size of the pendant light??
Comments (2)I followed the advice I read on this forum long ago: Use balloons. You can inflate them to the largest possible size you think you might want, and hang them from a string. Attach the string to your ceiling with tape. Then you can make the balloon larger or smaller, and lengthen or shorten the string. It's a great way to assess the visual impact of different sizes and placements, in your space, at almost no cost with no guesswork....See MoreJana D.
