I understand the 2 feet spacing, but would having 38-40" over the rest of island after the second one look strange? Or. if you mean to space them 2 feet apart centered in the 86", then would not having the first one centered over sink and faucet look even worse? That's my dilemma!

It depends on the size of the pendants. Mini pendants would likely need 3, while larger ones could possibly use 2. But larger pendants might also be closer to the wall than ideal. You have to work backwards from the two limitations that you have to the size of the pendants that can be used. Your best bet may be end up being recessed lighting and not to do pendants.

The size of the pendants here was dictated by the door swing of the cabinets on the left. We wanted the door to have a couple of inches of clearance, and then the pendants to be evenly spaced over the peninsula as a whole when viewed from a distance. That limited the size of the pendants to around 6”-8”. We ran the electrical wires in the ceiling, and didn’t punch through the drywall until we had the spacing issue solved after the cabinet install.

Thank you Cook's Kitchen! This helps me visualize if I use 2 pendants. I just talked to our contractor this morning. We are leaning towards a recessed (can) light over the sink, then I could put 1 statement pendant (maybe a rectangle type) centered from the left cabinet wall to right counter edge. We realized a large 1 pendant would actually line up with ceiling fan in family room about 10ft away. Is this a better solution?

Yes, we all love the pretty... but my main concern is that the island will be 7ft, 3" in length when done. That's a fairly long line, so I thought a pendant about 10-12" across would balance the weight of the wall on the other end. My cabinets are flat slab high gloss white acrylic on top and a med tone slab wood veneer oak on bottoms. Terrazzo floors in coral, pale greys and yellows (original under the yucky old vinyl).

A 12 inch pendant is bound to be a at least 7 inches tall depending on style. I tell people to cut out the size of pendant they like and hang if from a string and tape it up, bare in mind you want it at least above your eye level so its not right on top of you while you are working .if it went 24 inches off the counter that would put it at a 6 foot level in the room. no one can see your cabinets from the other rooms so you will see only see that view when you are standing at the fidge in your kitchen, I think you might be over thinking the cabinet thing.

the balance will be off from the out side visual, because one pendant will be at the end of the 7 ft.

Are you having a breakfast nook by the window? or will that be more cabinets and counter? That wall is where you could add some interest, or if a table a pendant.

Yes, we have a breakfast area under that large window in the kitchen. The side wall (next to door) in that area will have a 39" base cabinet plus counter, but at the depth of wall cabinets. Considering a round table with chairs or a small built in banquette bench under the window. This is an early drawing of the whole galley kitchen when we started the design in April.
