How far apart should I space pendant lights over Long Island?
I am installing 3 bed ant lights over my island. They are 12” diameter. I plan to put one in the center but am not sure how far apart to space the other two. The island is 148.5” long.
if I divide the island into thirds and place a light in the center of each section. The pendants will be spaced 37.5” apart. Is this too far? Many recommendations online say to space them 30-32” apart. I’m wondering if I should stick with 37.5” spacing or move them closet together and, if so, what spacing should I do?

That would put layout at 12" in from each counter edge if I did math correctly, with 18" between pendants, but 30" between light bulbs within each pendant. Does that seem correct? Comments (14)You didn’t Indicate the height of your ceiling. With an 8ft ceiling it is a challenge because if you will be restricted to a smaller diameter. I only installed two over my 99” island. I wanted them larger in diameter, but the next size would not accommodate my 8ft ceiling. I did not want to use three, I knew that from the beginning. Comments (8)Re - the island - Your comments say it's 3'5" but the plans say it's 2'6". The distance between the sink wall is measured at 3'7" but don't forget that the counters will have an overhang up to around 1" on either side so now you're down to 3'5" distance What is the distance between the lower right corner of the island to the upper left corner of the counter across from it (keeping in mind counter overhangs). 4 years agoWhat you should do is place the pendants absolutely centered on the island but place them 1/3 of the way in from the seating area.
Then place a high hat directly above your sink for good task lighting. That's what I did and it works beautifully. Those sitting at the island get good lighting and you working at the sink get good lighting and no one will ever notice if it's slightly off because no one ever stands exactly dead center looking.
