Update: Guest bedroom yellow no more
Comments (11)Thanks everyone! cherigw, I did like the yellow, but after awhile I started to feel it was almost like a children's room. Maybe it's the trend lately with the warm greys, but I always like greyed colors in general. Honestly, I liked the yellow in late afternoon but hated it in the morning. If I were to paint yellow again, I would make sure it's not lemony but more like EK Honeysuckle or Restoration Hardware Butter, which I have in my kitchen. My mom's whole apt.(my basement) is yellows so I feel I have yellow in there as well. After seeing Pirula's photos of her bedroom I knew I wanted something similar. It was either between off white and Stony ground. Stony ground won out because it was a bit deeper in color for the bright sunlit room. Thanks everyone again. I feel like I finally got a color right! I was feeling so down on myself because I wasn't 100% thrilled with my living room choice....See Moreblank slate guest bedroom
Comments (103)sorry, didn't read all, but I would just move the bed over a foot!!! it would drive me crazy to have it a foot (18"??) off the wall for a foot of view! the left sided person would still enjoy it and the r side would just have to scooch over to see it-- wake up, love it and hop out of bed to the window seat to better enjoy it!! if I was staying in the room, I would probably take the liberty and move the bed over so that it sat fully on the wall myself! I would leave the brass alone, tho would be pretty shined up too! either looks good! love everything else!! what an awesome guest room!!!!!...See MoreBedroom Mini Make-over Complete (pics)
Comments (30)I think the addition of the stripe might not be approved by DS. I think it might take it that one step beyond looking pulled together and looking "decorated". But I will let him choose when he returns next week. He hasn't seen the room finished. Even though he chose the individual elements and has seen the room painted, he hasn't seen everything in the room. I offered photos but he wants to be surprised. That's why I haven't ironed the duvet yet, just in case he hates it in person. I went to the fabric store today to pick up some options. I found a gray linen that is very close to the background color of the drapes and would work the best if I added stripes. I also picked up a heavy matelasse type of fabric per a couple suggestions above. This one is the wall color and has a little circle theme. Yeah I know....i'm supposed to be moving away from that but I think it could be a contender as it's rather subtle. I picked up one other that I'm not sure how to explain but I don't really like. I also purchased a 1/2 yard of charcoal silk to use to make cording for the pillows and decided to see how that would work so I'm attaching photos for your thoughts. charcoal silk...I like the contrast with everything else and since I am using it to edge the throw pillows made out of the circle fabric, it would tie in. Unfortunately, they are rather stingy with their samples and have a minimum 1/2 yard purchase requirement... I couldn't find anything heavy except the circle fabric. The linen is rather "stiff" though and would hold a box pleat really well....See MoreHelp me pick my guest bedroom colors please!
Comments (3)Does "middle age guy" refer to you or your guest(s)? Are you designing for (mostly) one particular guest, or will your guests be more diverse? Generally, I think guest bedroom decor should be broadly appealing, inoffensive, and not terribly taste specific. Something that neither one's 90 year old grandma nor one's 14-year-old nephew would find unappealing. A happy medium. Maybe I'm not visualizing what you have in mind, but I don't think I would find silver/peach appealing (not a huge peach fan to start with, so take that with a grain of salt). I'd probably avoid silver (and other metallics) entirely (except in lamps and accessories) because they read glam, which works against "broadly appealing."...See Moresumac
