It is great! It doesn't read too 'girly' to me. I think that you're on the right track with the circle fabric for the bedskirt. You may even consider a solid gunmetal gray color, also. I needed a bedskirt for our bed and bought a king size sheet from Ikea, but when I got home I realized I bought a fitted sheet instead. Oh well, it worked for the bedskirt perfectly actually!

Some graphic art in black, white and gray will complete it.

Looks great! I love the orange and gray combo--not girly at all. I like the fabric you showed for the bedskirt. Or, if it's cheaper, use a coordinating sheet to make it.

I like it a lot. I like echoing the circles on a smaller scale and diff color in the bedskirt.

I'd like to see some artwork with more pop on the desk wall (see link) & maybe floating shelves over the bed with orange covered books.

Since it is still 'his' room, the artwork and framed objects mean something to him? Maybe,you could have mats cut the same color as the bed covering. That would bring the color to that side of the room
It's fairly easy to have a mat cut the same size and then just pop out th old one and replace it with the new one

Wow, what a great make over! I LOVE the bedding. There is nothing girly about the room at all.

I'd rather see the sheet fabric used for the skirt. The "circle fabric" is competing with the comforter. I also think the suggested skirt introduces one too many circle patterns into the room (the pillow is fine because it's small).

You've got lots of gray, orange, and circles, all in one corner of the room. That area looks great, but now it's time to carry some of the color around the room.

BTW, I love the little table. A large basket underneath would hide the cords and provide some storage.

Do they sell orange mats for pictures? I think some photos in black frames with orange mats (or the grey for that matter) would look really nice.

The only thing that jumped out as needing work from the pix was the bed skirt.
I'd like it in a simple dark gray (pleated flat if possible). You have enough pattern and don't want it to be too fussy. He is a young adult male and it should not look contrived. If you were doing it as a unisex guest room, then it might be different, but I'd still not use yet another pattern.
The rest looks great... that is just the finishing touch.

I am not crazy about the circle fabric for the bedskirt. I think you have enough circles with the orange bedding, and it feels too light compared to the strength of all the other fabrics on the bed.

I would think a grey solid skirt, plain or box pleated, not gathered, with a band of the orange about two inches from the bottom would be great. The band could be a couple of strips of orange trim or ribbon, spaced just a bit apart. The darker grey skirt will also be a nice anchor for the bed, something that the light circle fabric doesn't do.

Just wondering if you really need the small table and lamp? Seems to me that you could get rid of that, and use the chest that is currently on the left side of the bed as the nightstand. I would move the chest to the other side of the bed, moving the bed over to the door just a bit to give the chest enough room near the window. I would use the lamp on the chest over on the desk, and use the lamp on the small table for the chest. I think that would also open up the room as you enter, so you don't walk into the chest right at the doorway.

I would try to bring a touch of the orange to the desk area. Perhaps the same orange trim on the lampshade that you use on the bedskirt. It looks like you have a piece of art on the opposite wall that has some orange in it, which could be hung above the desk. An orange slipcover for the existing chair, or a new orange chair, would also be fun.

For a spark of color, you could add in touches of turquoise or electric blue.

Another vote here for a straight or pleated dark gray bed skirt without a print and a pillow to match on the bed.

For those who suggested the sheets as a bedskirt, I wouldn't mind that but they only come as a set so I would be buying much for than I need and about 3x the cost to make one.

I hadn't noticed how bland the desk area was until I posted the photo, then it really jumped out at me. I'll have him see what he can find from his designs for art work on that wall. I love the print that Jeana posted.

The large boat image on the far wall is something he chose when we moved here and I added a couple of more over time. They all have some orange in them.

I'll pull the small table out and switch the small chest and see how that looks.

Maybe it's just me, Les, but the chest is functional where it is. I wouldn't walk around the bed everyday if I didn't have to ;-)

The mockups help, I think. I still like the dark grey plain the best, then the drapery fabric. Not wild about the other ones.

Since you have done a mockup, I was wondering if you could add a couple of orange stripes (not wide, and pretty close together) just a couple of inches off the floor.

I don't think either the circle bed skirt or the stripes work, because they are too light...especially with the light carpet.

I love that curtain fabric with the comforter, but it is too much with the comforter AND the sheet pattern.

I think the dark gray compliments everything, but it does need some type of enhancement. With the orange stripes added, it is perfect!

I like the solid gray in a heavier, textured fabric would look lovely. Euro shams in the same textured fabric (a la Ralph Lauren) might look very nice, as well.

The more "matchy" look appears more feminine to me. Just my opinion, though.

I think the graphic theme needs to be emphasized with stripe effects incorporated. That's why I like the artwork I suggested previouly - to introduce the "strength" of stripes. Great job, greenthumbfish!!!

I think the addition of the stripe might not be approved by DS. I think it might take it that one step beyond looking pulled together and looking "decorated". But I will let him choose when he returns next week. He hasn't seen the room finished. Even though he chose the individual elements and has seen the room painted, he hasn't seen everything in the room. I offered photos but he wants to be surprised. That's why I haven't ironed the duvet yet, just in case he hates it in person.

I went to the fabric store today to pick up some options. I found a gray linen that is very close to the background color of the drapes and would work the best if I added stripes. I also picked up a heavy matelasse type of fabric per a couple suggestions above. This one is the wall color and has a little circle theme. Yeah I know....i'm supposed to be moving away from that but I think it could be a contender as it's rather subtle. I picked up one other that I'm not sure how to explain but I don't really like. I also purchased a 1/2 yard of charcoal silk to use to make cording for the pillows and decided to see how that would work so I'm attaching photos for your thoughts.

charcoal silk...I like the contrast with everything else and since I am using it to edge the throw pillows made out of the circle fabric, it would tie in.

Unfortunately, they are rather stingy with their samples and have a minimum 1/2 yard purchase requirement...

I couldn't find anything heavy except the circle fabric. The linen is rather "stiff" though and would hold a box pleat really well.

I love the circle fabric and would stick with that. Nice room.

FYI....I'm using an orange micro suede pillow with circles on my brown leather couch and LOVE it!

Charcoal silk??? WOW! That would be my choice for a bedskirt!!!! and it ties in with the accent your using....

I like the darkest gray option. I really think adding more circles is overkill and the stripes would look funny on that fabric.
