Two-tone walls with no chair rail?

User

This unique and colorful apartment was featured in the NY Times recently. I wouldn't necessarily want to live there, but I still think it's quite beautiful and inspiring. I noticed that many of the walls have colored paint going halfway up, then white on the top. There's no chair rail separating the two sections. I kind of love it.

Can anyone share examples of similar paint jobs - where the paint changes color midway up the wall, with no molding separating the sections? Any style/color is fine.

Also, are there any rules of thumb to keep in mind if considering a scheme like this for a room with average ceiling height? I imagine you'd want the lighter color on top, and probably have the darker color not go more than halfway up?

Also, is there a specific term for this that I should be using to find more examples?
