Comments (10)I think the tile you have selected sounds lovely. I am wrapping up a bathroom where I replaces 4x4 tiles with 12x12 tiles and I love the look. It minimizes grout lines and maximizes the focus on the tiles. I also agree that big tiles can make the space look larger by not breaking up the space quite so much. As long as the thinset properly bonds, there should be no concern of tiles falling. There are some tile experts on this site that might have suggestions on techniques and/or products. I believe your concern of cuts should be mostly resolved by a good tile setter. I would recommend specifically discussing this concern with your tile setter and asking him to share the layouts for your approval. I believe (from reading and minimal experience -- I'm not an actual expert) you want to try to avoid laying cut tiles that are smaller than half the size of the tile. I believe in most cases this should be possible, but it certainly takes some work up front to plan the layout....See More12 x 24 tile transition from basement to bathroom
Comments (7)Agree with Patricia. You'll get better flow if you skip the herringbone hall and keep it one pattern. Sort of unusual to have the same tile in bathroom as in surrounding areas...you usually like a little definition to the bathroom. And 12X24 is reeeeally big for a bathroom floor tile-unless your bathroom is huge, the scale could look very odd. Comments (25)Home Depot is the only place within two hours that sells the pre-fab, and the colors are horrible. I need three bathroom countertops, and the largest is 52". I should be able to find remnants, but I can't even find fabricators who have remnants. Nobody has a website and the fabricators don't advertise, at all. I found six places in Tulsa, but none of them have quartzite remnants. I can only find stone suppliers. I will make a list of suppliers this weekend, and call them on Monday. Maybe they have a list of fabricators near me. Even Google maps didn't have anyone listed near me. They didn't have the two fabricators that are a half hour away from me. What is your opinion on glossy vs honed in a bathroom. My kitchen has leathered Sea Pearl quartzite, and I love it. I prefer matte colors usually, but I doubt I would like leathered bathroom countertops....See MoreLarge format tile vs small tile for small bathroom
Comments (5)We are also doing two bathroom remodels. Our tile installer is telling us that large tiles are the rage right now, however our master bath will be a wet room. I am very hesitant to put large tiles on the floor thinking that they could be very slippery. On the other hand, I really don't want to deal with discoloring of grout as time goes on. Now my mother installed lots of tile in the 80s and and the grout became very discolored. I am suspecting grout has come a LONG was since then. I have read about epoxy and urethane grout. Does anyone have suggestions for a bathroom wet room? Thanks so much for your opinions in advance!...See Morerguilmette
