Mounting tub handles away from spout

I am currently planning on installing a freestanding tub with a wall mount faucet. While looking for images/inspiration/fixtures, I have seen some installs where the handle is mounted some distance from the spout, as opposed to directly next to the spout.

Aesthetically, this really works for me. Practically, it also appeals to me, as it would allow me to have the tub filler over the middle of the tub, but the handle closer to the side, so I would not have to reach over the tub to turn it on.

But I wonder about any issues this installation may cause. Any plumbers or plumbing knowledgeable folk here have any thoughts? Is this a potential disaster waiting to happen, as it would make future repairs more difficult? Is this a more difficult, and thus much more costly, install right off the bat? Are there particular restrictions on how close the handles need to be to the spout?

I appreciate any help with this question!
