I have a navy & white runner between my island and sink/countertops at our lakehouse. There's plenty of foot traffic back there, and lots of food prep. Everything has washed off that rug - spaghetti sauce, blueberry jam, spilled coffee, etc. I've had it for 4 yrs. I spot clean it and vacuum regularly. Early spring and late fall I put it out on the deck on a nice day and give it a good sudsing w/ detergent, hose it off and let it thoroughly dry in the sunshine. It looks practically new. My daughter has the black and ivory striped one under the dining table where her family (w/ 2 little ones) eats every meal. She cares for hers much as I do mine. She's had it for 2 yrs and it looks great. Between us we own 8 Dash & Albert rugs. Two are woven cotton & the rest indoor/outdoor. I can highly recommend, but would advise a rug pad for the runner to prevent slipping & sliding.

We have an indoor/outdoor rug from Ballard (the Geneve design) in our breakfast room, which has hardwood floors. We put a rug pad specifically for hardwoods under it and haven't had any issues. We have 3 young children and it has been extremely functional for us and looks great! We used overlapping indoor/outdoor rugs to "carpet" our basement. I'm glad we did, as we've had 3 water events since doing it. A couple of the fibers have broken (kid-related?), but they're easy to clean. Ours are made of recycled bottles, and they're reversible. One note: Indoor/outdoor rugs don't absorb moisture. Part of the point is to allow moisture to pass through, so you don't have mold or mildew problems under the rug. Some of the indoor-outdoor rugs are woven. You'd have to be careful as you cut that the whole thing doesn't unravel, and you'd have to bind the cut edges with something to keep it all together. Some of the indoor-outdoor rugs are tufted. You'd still have to do something to the cut edges to keep the tufts in place and make the rug look the same on all the edges, but you wouldn't have the same unraveling problem. If a rug is just a foot or two too long, you can always just fold it under on one edge, the edge where it won't show as much.
