Build a Patio or Deck or Fence in area?
Comments (7)I agree, my toddler wont be one for long. I like the idea of an enclosed balcony, thats what we had in our previous residence and it was fine. It was also the same size. The only other place for a grill would be to open up the garage (which is in the back) and grill on the driveway/garage area. Actually the space you see opposite the HVAC unit (in the picture where the red property line is marked), that is our backyard!! , you can also see a little bit of our driveway and garage on the left hand side :). Because we dont have a backyard at all, we were looking for a small area which we can call outside :) Cooks....See MoreSuggestions for steep area with fence
Comments (13)Now that there is a competing dominant fence, it nullifies yours. In spite of the fact that you have the right to it, I would remove it because it makes things worse for you. While removing it wouldn't change the need for different planting, it would nevertheless help with maintenance and appearance. I presume that where you need the privacy/screening most is in line with the patio...? A large shrub form (with foliage to the ground) would take care of that. A big, fat Camellia, for example, would work, and be maintainable over the long term. Of course, you could explore using other evergreen shrubs. Extend the shrubs as far as the screening is needed I would section off the entire space between patio and fence (as shown in illustration) and fill it with a solid bed of groundcover so that there's no mowing this area at all. Something like solid 'Big blue' Liriope would be nice since it blooms for a period during the summer and looks tidy otherwise. But there are many things you could use. Also, there could be an odd-number grouping of small, multi-trunk tree form plants such as crape myrtle to give a filtered, semi-screened view along the property line. The more trunks there are, the more screening effect. And finally, some annuals or perennials for color near the corner of the house could give some cheer to the patio area....See MoreNeed help/ideas with fenced in garden area
Comments (5)The Vegetable forum might be able to help you with pollinators. I'm not sure what grows in your zone, but as far as your seating question, I'm a huge fan of Adirondack Chairs! We have a couple and love to sit out at night with a glass of wine and look at our fire pit and the city light views. They make them in all colors and many with wine holders. Ours are not wood, but they look like it and they weather just fine! Another thing you could add is a fire pit. Ours is propane. We got it for $99 through Hayneedle.com. We hide the propane behind a shrub, and the little pit puts out a lot of heat! We loved it so much, we now have two fire pits! One is in a pine grove by our picnic table. We love the propane. No sparks! No wild fires!! Re your view: Is that a driveway with cars? I'd definitely put a hedge there, but your slope seems like you'll just see those cars anyway. You could try planting vining veggies on your fence, but it might provide too much shade for the boxes....See MoreLooking for plant suggestions for along the fence area. Zone 10
