4” or 6” wafer lights
Comments (3)Yes UCL and then lamp lighting once we decide what furniture to buy. They are running wire for floor outlets with enough wire looped to add them wherever we wind up putting lamps. It was suggested I put a centered light fixture in the family room but with all three lights from the island, entry and dining area visible from the front door I didn’t want to overwhelm the eye or have to agonize over yet another lighting concern. Plus 8’ ceilings do not lend themselves to hanging fixtures in the middle of the room and I’m having a hard time finding an entry light I love. Thanks for confirming my own thoughts on the lighting. I love Houzz and use it daily it seems for ideas....See MoreWafer recessed lighting question, old cans.
Comments (7)The wafers will have a remote junction/driver box that can't go into the housing, so AFAIK there isn't a wafer product that can retrofit an existing can. Verify your housing type, as with some the housing canister is removable from the housing mounting plate, but probably not with a 15 year old house. I would venture a guess that the amount of existing lighting, at least in the Family Room, is "not enough" as you typically don't want to light up that space like a surgery room....See MoreNew Construction - Install CANLESS (wafer) recessed LED ceiling lights
Comments (13)The lights are IC rated and airtight - we have around 35-40 of them on the project. I really don't like the look of surface mounted disc lights and the canless wafer are touted because of their ease of installation, making them less expensive as compared to typical recessed lights with a can/housing. The electrician added the step of installing plastic cover boxes so insulation didn't fall on them when they cut the holes in. I thought there must be a way to eliminate this extra step since they had estimated its cost as $950 for the covers. I was looking for another method and it looks like the tool that RES2 mentioned below would have done the trick. Just wanted to know more about solutions for future client projects. Thank you to everyone for their comments - you've all been very helpful!...See MoreWhich to choose: wafer lights or off-center cans
Comments (6)Thanks Patricia. Agree, I would prefer to be able to change bulbs. And I prefer the lower glare of recessed lights. I'll try to make and post a diagram a bit later, after I get the kids packed off to activities. For now, the perimeter countertop runs east-west along the north wall. There's a joist also running east-west 26" out from the north wall. So 5" recessed lights mounted here wouldn't be quite centered over the countertop edge. Similar issues with joists over the island....See Morepgsd
