Which to choose: wafer lights or off-center cans

Just measured ceiling joists ahead of the electrical rough-in. Joists sit very close to the perimeter countertop edge and one island edge. So our choices are 1) wafer lights; or 2) recessed lights that are centered an inch (perimeter) or 2 inches (island) in from the countertop edge. By "in" I mean closer to the wall or island center, so further from the aisle/person working at the countertop.

Yes, we have a designer. Yes, we will ask her what to do. But interested in Houzzer input, because people here have a lot of helpful perspectives. Which would you choose? If you vote wafer, do you recommend a particular model?
