Need Help Quickly Please! R.E. Quick Retransplanting
Comments (6)Here's the risk to repotting too soon: that the roots haven't filled the pot, so the rootball won't still together, it will fall apart when you take it out of the pot and break off a bunch of the delicate feeder roots, setting back your plant. I've potted up after 3 weeks many times. I can gauge time to pot up by two simple things that have little to do with top growth: seeing feeder roots in the drain holes and being able to turn a well-watered pot upside down with my hand holding the plant in and having the whole rootball tap out cleanly. That's all I know. Whether 9 days is long enough in Florida to equal 3 weeks of root growth here is anyone's guess. This is the season of top growth, so don't be fooled by that. Haven't you found a source of free pots from landscapers?!?! Or is it too hot to use plastic nursery pots down there?...See MoreHelp! Plz! Need Answer Quickly! Plz!
Comments (5)Plenty of post in here on wintering and they should be just fine...they will lose their leaves but thats to be expected and dont water as much as u normally would. Id wait till most of the leaves drop then prune back seeing how they will be inside. Check out all the other postings regarding wintering in here...you should be fine....See Moreanyone interested in sharing a 2 inch thick marble slab with me?
Comments (11)HI Remodelfla, Thank you for the compliment on the marble and I am so sorry to hear about your parents. Within 7 weeks of one another - that is very sad for you and your siblings and must have been incredibly difficult. Beckysharp, oh dear - you and Remodelfla both have experienced the loss of both parents very quickly. It was bad for me to lose my mom to cancer and it would have sent me over the edge if my dad had died, too. So glad you found this website - it is a fantastic distraction and I just wish I had found it sooner - before we even bought and thought about remodeling. I love clipping useful posts to my saved folder and more than once have needed to refer to them to convince my architect and contractor that something CAN be done. Ugh, they definitely sometimes just want to do what they know, so when you start your project, try to hire someone willing to work with you and go past their comfort zone to get you what you want....See MoreHelp me pick a bath and island marble slab (pic heavy)
Comments (17)Of course you are overwhelmed-10 choices is too many! Can you do a bit of a gut check: what do you envision in your space? (I like what sparklekitty wrote above.) RE: color... 1) Can you post the tiles you are hoping to match? If they are white/off white, which slabs are closest to your particular white? 2) On my monitor--It looks like there are 2 slabs out of the 10 that have more warmth/taupe/gold tones to them (option 7 & 10--maybe they're even labeled different Calacatta d'oro or Calacatta Gold?) I'm wondering if you can eliminate them if you prefer more crisp gray/black and white of the other 8 slabs? (Those 2 taupe toned slabs are actually my favorite, but are they yours?) I'm thinking 2 of these things are not like the other... RE: how to choose what piece for where Can your fabricator meet you at the stoneyard to help show you how they could layout pieces on the slabs you like? There are only certain ways they'll be able to cut the stone to get you all the pieces you need. (This was very helpful to me.) Right now you are looking at slabs, which have little to do with the final look you'll have from the smaller pieces you will see in your home. I'd prioritize which portion of which slab you like for your island (or your bath, if that is more important to you.) But just think about that one thing first. Then, do you like the pieces that remain for your other counters? I took some blue painters tape to the stoneyard to make my own (very primitive) "templates" on the slab it was easier to stand back and "see" my counters that way. Miscellaneous: Large areas of pure white with no veins will show etches the worst. Veining helps disguise etches. I would try to put the most veining on your kitchen island which would see the heaviest use. When I was shopping for our marble, I could find slabs with the tones I wanted OR the vein pattern/movement, but not both. Is one more important to you?...See MoreUser
