Comments (3)Royal Standard and Blue Angel were two of my thoughts as well. My flowers do rise well above the leaves so it isn't Elegans. Any thoughts on Lime Green. I can't imagine that it is Sum and Substance...it seems much neater and more upright mound that S&S? Thanks for your thoughts. I do appreciate it!...See MoreHosta identification - can't ever have enough!!!
Comments (15)Hi Sohannah and welcome to the UK and Eire branch of the Hosta Forum. Hope you have plenty of space up there as it sounds like you have quite a propagation project going on there. Victory is a great plant and looks good from an early age. If there are eyes showing now be prepared to cover it every time there is a frost warning. I moved from the southeast of England to here in Wales six years ago and quickly discovered what damage frost can do. Down south we rarely got frost after the middle of March. I was convinced my plants had some sort of disease the first time I discovered brown spots all over the leaves. Now I have this crazy situation where for 3 months I am constantly wrapping them in fleece at night then uncovering in the morning. Like everyone else I look forward to pictures and trying to help you identify them. Can you tell me where you bought the plants with lost labels. If it was from a nursery they have lists which can help me dismiss ones they don't carry. If it was from garden centres then they all carry the same short list of varieties which again will help narrow it down. Again welcome to the addiction. Dave...See MoreHosta Identification help #4
Comments (11)Thanks for the quick replies! You guys/gals are so good with figuring out these NOIDs. 😊 Queen Josephine is a possibility. A pic of your friends plant before it was divided would have been really helpful. Unfortunately I doubt she took a pic. Scale wouldn't matter much with a new division. However if you could estimate the size of you friends plant, that would help. I wasn't there when this one was divided, however, I have seen all her hostas, and none were very big. So I'm guessing this one was no more than 18 inches wide, and less than that tall, but can't say for sure. All her hostas, though, are foundation plantings, and get divided when they get too big, so seeing the before pic might not have been very helpful....See Morehosta identification
Comments (18)I have had the hosta maybe 20 years, growing in the same spot. I just looked at the pictures on the hosta library of Blue Wedgwood and yes it is very similar to the one I have. The library says Blue Wedgwood has lavender flowers yet it shows a picture with white flowers. Mine has white. The size of the plants and the scape length is also similar. What I wonder about is the longer, more pointy leaves in some of the pictures on the library. Some of my leaves seem to have a point but the leaves tend to be more round. Possibly, the first five pictures on the library are younger plants. Does the plant actually change as it matures? The other thing I noticed is the number of lines/divisions (or whatever they are called) in the leaves is almost about the same number (10) Does that have any meaning? Or is it just something to do with size? thanks for the suggestion. if asked I can say "looks like BW" Debra, thanks for the info regarding the Hosta Alphabet. Sounds like a real opportunity to see what everyone else has been growing and what else you might desire....See Morenicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
