Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Help with choosing 3 large vanity mirrors in master

In the midst of a master bath refresh, I need advice on mirror choices. I have sinks on either side of the walk-in closet. My sink is to the right, with cabinetry forming an L for my sit-down makeup vanity. So I need three mirrors and am interested in using an LED (backlit? front/ side-lit???) for the makeup vanity. I'm limited to maximum 24-inch width, but have 10-foot ceilings. I'm using three-light bath bars above the two sink mirrors. Other factors: transitional style; rectangular undermount sinks; rectangular soaking tub; dark gray 12-inch granite floor tiles; white/gray veining quartz counters; Sherwin-Williams alabaster paint for cabinets/walls/ceiling/trim. Questions:

1. Do I really want an LED mirror at all?

2. What do you think about mixing shapes/ sizes, eg. tall skinny rectangular mirrors over sinks and a round LED over vanity? Or should I just get three matching mirrors, with three light bars, and a lighted magnifying stand mirror for makeup?

What size mirrors over a 34-inch counter with 4-inch backsplash? How much space to leave above backsplash and below lowest point of light bar?

3. Who manufactures the better LED mirrors out there? What features are essential?

Hi there! Could you share pictures to help give a visual of the space?

1. I personally wouldn't do an LED mirror, but it depends on what your tile, cabinet, hardware, and paint color selections are.

2. I would keep it symmetrical, so at least all the same height. If the width is shorter or wider or one, I think that would be fine.

Did you have a specific mirror style in mind? I think the minimum width should be 24in wide, height shouldn't go above top of bathroom door or nearby windows.

3. Since I've not used any LED lights in any of my spaces, I don't have the best answer here. I would say to make sure you look at the reviews of other consumers.

And please post pics so I can see the space. That may change some of these answers. Hope this helps!

Thanks for responding, Brittany! Here is my side of the bathroom after demo. From left there's a slim upper cabinet; then sink with mirror and light above (old fixture was mounted on top of mirror; new will move above mirror); then the space that will become my sit-down vanity; and finally to the far right, another set of upper cabinetry. Lighting is a transitional style geometric crystal -- Savoy House Bangle. Plumbing fixtures are Moen Voss polished chrome. Counters are white quartz with gray veining. 12x12 granite tile floor in dark gray remains (mainly because of heating system beneath!). Best -- Jill

I like the pendants, I was looking into using them myself but I have a couple of medicine cabinets was worried about the swing on the door. I like the look of your pendants and I like the look of 3. My thoughts is that will function across the face well too. I asked every lighting store I went to, how many lights are required for x amount of space. All I got was the deer in headlights look. It is however calculated 50 watts per 25 sq feet. Like your renderings they are very good. I would say when trying to make a decision 2 or 3 or whatever keep the drawing the same so everything is same same it may be the other perspective your looking at that is altering your opinion of the choice of 2 or 3. I for one am really anxious to see your completed bath, I love contemporary spaces, they are very soothing to look at and are so timeless and beautiful. I just looked and that is the same pendant I was considering really pretty.

Your husband's vanity looks fine. Your drawers look larger than your sink cabinet. For a 72" single sink vanity, I'd do a 32" sink base and 20" drawer bases. That's plenty of drawer storage. You'll need to know those measurements to order mirrors and place the sconces. Also to pick a sink that fits. Don't put a dinky sink in that large counter. I might also bump the sink base out 2" to give it a little more prominence. The sink is the focal point, not the drawers. With the sink bumped out, you could put a valance or feet on the sink cabinet and separate valances/feet on the drawer bases. That way it won't look like a run of kitchen cabinets. This has triple mirrors too. Sconces are mounted on mirrors. I like the molding on the drawer bases here. You don't stand there so you don't need a toe kick. Notice the ratio of the sink base to the drawers and how well that would work with the triple mirror idea.

I think the bathroom looks lovely...mixing finishes is fine....chrome and brushed nickel is very common and mixes very nice together...I would leave the vanity but change the countertop...add one long counter tops that covers both vanities and have custom drawers added between them instead of a medicine cabinet.

Thanks for the picture! I think all of the answers above still stand. As long as the top height is the same, the width can be varying. I like the lighting, but the faucet choice doesn't seem to match the lighting, it's not as fancy (could just be me). I think all of your other options will look nice!
