I love the look of the two pendants. I think it is different and more contemporary. The sconces are more ordinary and too traditional for the look you are going for.

Just curious how will you get around the code? I'm asking because I'm thinking of using pendants over a bathroom sink and hadn't thought about it not being code.

We selected mini pendants for our powder. Local glass shop made our mirror to size. No code problem here with pendants in a bath but everything must be GFCI protected.

I like the pendants, I was looking into using them myself but I have a couple of medicine cabinets was worried about the swing on the door. I like the look of your pendants and I like the look of 3. My thoughts is that will function across the face well too. I asked every lighting store I went to, how many lights are required for x amount of space. All I got was the deer in headlights look. It is however calculated 50 watts per 25 sq feet. Like your renderings they are very good. I would say when trying to make a decision 2 or 3 or whatever keep the drawing the same so everything is same same it may be the other perspective your looking at that is altering your opinion of the choice of 2 or 3. I for one am really anxious to see your completed bath, I love contemporary spaces, they are very soothing to look at and are so timeless and beautiful. I just looked and that is the same pendant I was considering really pretty.

I am certainly not advocating that anyone do this, but I have heard people on these forums talk about temporary fixtures (electrical, plumbing, as needed) and then changing them after the final inspection.

The code is, as I understand it: no pendants (or pullchain lights, track lighting, etc) within 3 horizontal feet or 8 vertical feet of the edge of a tub or shower threshold... If your vanity is further away than that I don't believe you will have an issue with pendants. That is just my understanding of the code though :)

Here are all 3 options on the same sketch! Keep in mind, though, that what these perspective drawings don't show well is that the vanity is pretty narrow compared to two adults (60" wide). With the sconces the mirror narrows from 59.5" wide to 47.5" wide.

Did you sketch those drawings yourself? Those are great. You should see some of my sketches of things for the house. They often add little to the point I'm trying to convey!
Anyway, I personally prefer the sconces. I agree that they look less cluttered. I don't think I'd like having 2 pendants swinging in the air by my vanity, but I know that's a personal preference thing. I've seen other people use pendants and it looks great. Good luck!

Thanks! My dad is an architect so i guess I inherited a little of the visual representation gene.

I think I am leaning towards sconces too... but worry about making the mirror for 2 people that narrow (48".) Maybe we need to mock it up and see how it feels...

You know Stacey my Dad was an architect too! Yea you learn by osmosis I guess. Wish I had showed more interest when he was here tho. Anyway, looking at your rendering some of the things that hits me is that big mirror doesn't make it to the edge of the sink or does it have you done this drawing to scale, some pics it looks different. Some it seems when your at the sink will you see part of your face off the glass? I still like the pendants maybe cause they were what I picked and couldn't use them but I like em. One of the things that did concern me is them getting hit while brushing hair and stuff. My DH has a large wing span and I could just play it in my head him hitting one and it getting slammed against the wall. That said I vote 3 pendants closer to the back wall. Good idea about just putting in something else for inspection I did a post of where to get 3" recessed lights cheep if needed.

Strictly speaking of aesthetics I would vote for sconces. But how much space will you spare for sconces on the side and how much would the edge of the mirror be moved? Ultimately, it is important that when you stand in front of your sink, your face should reflect completely in the mirror, without you leaning the neck.

Alternately, you could install sconces right over the mirror, a bit over the eye level so they do not block your reflection in the mirror.

Pendants do not have that problem but they will bump into your head (or feel like they could) all the time.

Sorry for saying this, but overhead vanity light seems to be the best option for you. There are vanities that look like they are made of sconces, so design should not be an issue.
