Advice on Kitchen and Living Room Layout
Comments (5)Thanks for the feedback on the furniture/rug, I never would have known about that! Yeah, my initial thought/idea was to keep the planks, painting them white; also agree with dark staining the beams! I like the current wood color up there for the planks, but I really want wood flooring, so I’m worried it’s too many wood colors clashing so that was my thought behind making the space between the beams white. I was planning on using the island for prep as well for that very reason (not much counter space), so I’ll definitely be looking to have drawers and cabinets on the island and toe kicks. Not sure if there are other things I should consider for prep (pullout cutting board?)......See MoreLiving room color scheme- need inspiration!
Comments (39)The word here is INTENT Jinx, Beth has no intent but to help the op.. . When you post multiple threads on the very same topic, it is no different than a "dupe" . Your answers become confusing, you have to check all your posts ! Another reader, whether gen pop or Pro, has no clue there are two OTHER posts! If you started another because your thread was getting no more replies? All you have to do to revive it is post another COMMENT. On that same thread! I like, I don;t like, etc. Is there a law that prevents starting a new thread? Of course not, but it defeats your intent..........which is to get help. . Intent: Design involves intent. A point of view, and purpose. When an OP says: : "I cannot decide how I want to do my living room." they are simply saying'" I'm LOST" They are saying they haven't got a clear intent in style, color , feel.....anything. In this case, the op has a sofa and cocktail table. End story. Why blue curtains, and that rug? I don't know why. The op probably doesn't know either. Rather than police comments? Break down the process for the OP. Suggest a pecking order for the lost. Take DOWN the blue curtains. Please. The room is not yet ready for them. In any color. Find an 8 x 10 rug that acknowledges the sofa/sectional in some way. A bit of that tone in the rug. .......it has to be something you really like. Come back to THIS thread, and post what you found. YOU have to decide......and you must begin somewhere, You don't begin with paint. You don't begin with curtains. You give yourself a road map to follow. The rug you have relates to nothing in tone, it is too small. Start with a rug. Come back....See MoreAdvice for Living Room Chandelier Please!
Comments (138)LOL @Flo Mangan yes for sure it’s scary in that picture!! IRL I’d not just leave it on in the dark by itself like that - just to show how tall the effect is (more gravitas to balance that built in)..... when the console lamps are on, the effect is quieter and didn’t photograph. Agree, about not filling every space. It starts to feel busy. I like it calm but don’t want it to look sparse. It is a good start and not sure when or how I will do more. You know how hard it is when you move and have a million things to do and get. I don’t think they are wrong about the console not being long enough, but just tossing it out and buying something new isn’t how I roll. It’s different and I like it. If you see the right pillows (or lamps for that matter), I’d love your input. If you see my inspiration photo in the original post, it’s a light room, and I don’t want to kill that mojo. Wish I had a decent camera to show that the room isn’t dark at all....See MoreAdvice needed for a living room painting dilemma
Comments (27)@tartanmeup - Interesting thought about the closet door being the same color. What would you do with the trim around the closet? The coffee table is a tad smaller than I expected when I saw it online, but we decided it's fine. It's another one of those trade-offs for a good used furniture find. It's a nice piece by an Italian designer, and I like having it. There's no way I would've dropped the money that Chairish.com says it's worth on it. :) I could definitely see myself putting an entry table by the door if I find something I like! One of the main reasons I have the antique table in its current location is that it provided me with a way to hide our router. I have saved numerous art prints! Friends' artwork, botanical prints, lithographs, art nouveau illustrations, landscapes including some of places we've hiked, Japanese style art, portraits of Sikh noblemen (my partner is Punjabi), etc., etc. I love art. I already got my husband to help narrow down our favorites, so I'll start ordering stuff soon. I was going to wait until after we'd painted, but I'm happy with your advice not to delay it any longer. I will definitely check out that blog! Thank you for the reminder to have fun! @User - As soon as I typed it, I came back around to the idea of having the kitty corner! You're right, it would provide me with a great opportunity to create a hard line, and the cats would love it. It wouldn't be difficult to find somewhere else in the house for those photo frames. I never thought about it being a full on condo, but that's intriguing. I'd have to warm up to the stencil idea some more, but I see what you're saying. Playing with paneling seems like it could be fun. I like the pedestal idea. Putting shelves under the stairs would be *amazing*. A dream. I love built-in shelves. We do have a rather large vent and an electrical outlet there, though. On the other side of our staircase wall is a little hallway to the garage with a laundry closet. The closet ceiling is at an angle like the stairs. There's probably a lot going on behind that wall. I've definitely thought about how lovely it would be to put the wing chair in the corner with the plant, similar to the corner in the photo. The arrangement in the photo is so charming, isn't it? I seem to have picked up the same globe light, too. Just looking at the room in person, though, I can already tell that the wall with the couch and wingback chair would feel very smushed. Angling the couch would also be tricky without it messing with the path to the French doors. I have thought about putting the couch across the room! Maybe I'll try it out one day to see how it feels. There are some dents in the couch fabric on the back where the previous owner shoved it against some wall outlets, LOL. I've tried vacuuming it out with no luck. I'd have to cover that with the console table decor. Another trade-off for finding nice furniture on the cheap! Overall, I think I'm okay with the seating placement the way it is for now. :) I did move the wingback chairs closer together like you suggested, I just mentioned in the response to tartanmeup above this one that I've saved many art prints. I will definitely be ordering art in different sizes and mediums for visual interest. Thank you both for all of the input! I've never posted on here, and it's been a real treat to bounce ideas off of people who think about this stuff as hard as I do. :D I'm already feeling relieved about continuing with the decorating sans Persian rug, and figuring out the paint color as the last step....See Moretartanmeup
