Can/should I fertilize my water garden w/ normal fertilizer?
Comments (7)I think this is actually a proportion issue. You have a small volume pond and therefore would need a small amount of fertilizer. lisak has a point that you might need to be more careful than a larger pond manager but if you just pretended that your plants were house plants and responded as directed you would be fine. Yes, some fertilizer would disolve in the pond in low concentration (lower than algae would really appreciate) and then would slowly be picked back up by all the plants as needed. I thought your question was really about whether 'regular' fertilizer was OK to use; it is as long as you remain on the minimal side rather than casually and perhaps massively overloading with chemicals. For example, many here have used Jobes fertilizer stakes. They are just run of the mill fertilizer in a convenient 'stick it in' form....See MoreWhat Should I Fertilize With and How Much Should I Use?
Comments (0)There are many different types and brands of fertilizers. What works for some may not work for others. And the variety of seed will also be different for different people. Even for full grown plants, most horticulturalists are in agreement that commercial fertilizers should be used at half the recommended rate stated on the product. Commercial fertilizers are salt fertilizers which can burn plants when too much is used. Be cautious, it is always best to dilute commercial fertilizers, especially with seedlings. If you start with a good quality growing medium that is designed for seed starting to begin with, you shouldn't need to use any additional fertilizer at all. Fertilizers contain salts that can kill the plants you're trying to keep alive, especially if it's allowed to build up. This is because the salt absorbs water more readily than plant roots, effectively starving the grass. Salt itself can also be toxic to plant roots by causing the buildup of sodium, bicarbonate, and boron. Salt injury can cause plants to be more easily susceptible to soil-based plant diseases. Nature has been growing plants year after year - for millions of years and seasons on it's own - without the help of humans to come along and fertilize with commercial products. Have a little faith in all the hard work nature has put into creating the seed in the first place. Keep it simple and don't try too hard. If you feel you still need to use some, stick with natural fertilizers such as seaweed/kelp, fish emulsion, etc. In the end, compost (comprised from at least five different sources) is the absolute best fertilizer you can use. You can't use too much of it, it's already at the proper pH, and it's free if you make it!...See MoreWhat 24" wall ovens should I avoid and which one should I get?
Comments (5)I have an older 24" oven, and I've done some research in the event we have to replace it. Most of the 24" models are European brands, and certainly most with convection are European. In your price range, Fagor and Bosch are probably your best bets. Someone on the Appliance forum has a Fagor 24" oven, and there are some posts about it there. Bosch, of course, is more widely available. Neither of those will have temperature probes; for that, you would probably need to step up about $1,000 over your budget to Miele....See MoreWhich Kindle Paperwhite should I get?
Comments (5)My husband uses his paperwhite daily. It's the basic model. It was a gift to us after the flood. I am thinking of getting him a new one since they are such good prices now for prime day. Some come with a case some don't. The basic is on now for $49, no case. It will display ads on the opening page, usually for books. Other than that no ads. It does everything necessary to enjoy reading. You can read in the sunlight without any glare, however you can read it at night without any additional light. The basic is 6 inch screen the bigger one is 6.8. Not much of a difference. There is a comparison chart of all the kindle paperwhites. I was looking at it today. Don't worry about the storage amount 8 GB is more than you need. Since only text files are stored on it and they take up a tiny amount of space. My husband has thousands of books on his and has barely put a dent in the storage. There really is no need to delete books, he doesn't, he sometimes likes to reread one. Any you purchase from the Amazon bookstore will be stores in your Amazon account library forever. Covers can be found on Amazon and eBay and other places but you do have to be careful to get the correct case for your specific model. I just bought a new case for him because his original one was getting a little rough. I hope you are able to get one now for the price....See MoreRohit Naval
