I'm not really knowledgeable other than I know that I love mine. It is probably close to 10 years old at this point so it's not the latest and greatest but I love it. I mostly read ebooks from the library, and sometimes from free sites. I think I have actually purhcased less than 5 books. I do have some on my kindle library but the majority of what I read is not stored there because it goes back to the library. It should come with a charger.

A case is a good idea to protect it - whether or not you need the full brand one or a knockoff is up to you.

I would guess the basic one as long as it's paperwhite - is what you want. You can read outside in the sun, no glare, and you can read anywhere you like and not have to worry about lighting.

They do have sales every few months if it's not currently a big promotion but I still think it's well worth it. You don't have to get the fanciest version- I really think you will like it.

My husband uses his paperwhite daily. It's the basic model. It was a gift to us after the flood. I am thinking of getting him a new one since they are such good prices now for prime day. Some come with a case some don't. The basic is on now for $49, no case. It will display ads on the opening page, usually for books. Other than that no ads. It does everything necessary to enjoy reading. You can read in the sunlight without any glare, however you can read it at night without any additional light. The basic is 6 inch screen the bigger one is 6.8. Not much of a difference. There is a comparison chart of all the kindle paperwhites. I was looking at it today. Don't worry about the storage amount 8 GB is more than you need. Since only text files are stored on it and they take up a tiny amount of space. My husband has thousands of books on his and has barely put a dent in the storage. There really is no need to delete books, he doesn't, he sometimes likes to reread one. Any you purchase from the Amazon bookstore will be stores in your Amazon account library forever. Covers can be found on Amazon and eBay and other places but you do have to be careful to get the correct case for your specific model. I just bought a new case for him because his original one was getting a little rough. I hope you are able to get one now for the price.

Wow that must be what I have, raven., the basic paperwhite. Another feature I love is that the battery lasts a very long time. I use mine a lot.

And, as I shared, I am totally 100% delighted with it. $49 is outstanding. (when I looked yesterday I could swear it was like $99).

I would get it again.

Not sure which model I have. Can’t recall the last time I used it. Now, the Kindle app on my ipad mini gets quite a bit of use, though. Just a matter of preference.
