Help me pick dining room chairs!
Comments (37)firsthouse...I don't know. They come up pretty regularly...but not so regularly that I'd guarantee that they'd match. Have you hit the thrift shops/resale shops/goodwill in your area? That's where I found mine...and NC was NOT a bastion for MCM design. Lots of stuff made here...not much SOLD here. If you are in the SF area there should be lots of thrift stores with DM style chairs. Here are mine...recovered: From kitchen table to refinish Mine aren't anything special...not a known designer or brand...but they WERE cheap. $225 for all six. Of course...they had so many staples in them I ended up paying to have them re-upholstered instead of doing it myself...at $90/chair...but it was worth it. If you want to search on ebay...try running two searches. One as "mid-century modern dining chair" and one as "Danish Modern dining chair." And don't forget Craigslist....See MoreNeed massive help picking dining chairs!!
Comments (10)I see that one of your kids is still in high chair mode. I have a round table, similar to yours, but mine is a real 1900 antique. I have had it since I had a highchair sitter and a toddler. I also didn't like the sea of oak, so I painted the pedestal of the table ( and have regretted that almost daily since about 3 years after I did it!) and painted the oak chairs that went with the table. Well, the chairs soon looked awful from kids pushing them into the table and chipping the paint and generally "using" the chairs. My advice would be to get tie on chair cushions to break up all the "oakey-oak" and when the kids have a few more years on them, then find new chairs or paint the old ones. I now have black Hitchcock chairs with my table....and they are now looking like they need some help!...See MoreHaving trouble picking fabrics for my dining room
Comments (47)JD, I'm trying to update and freshen up my dining room. I'm not generally planning to change the furniture. I could do something different other than recover the parsons chairs if it would make sense. I know that china cabinets are not "in", but I've redone what I'm displaying in mine and like it so much better!...See MoreHelp me pick dining chairs for my nook
Comments (9)I could spend up to $300 a chair, but would be much happier in the $300 a pair range. I've actually been skimming Craigslist for chairs that would be easy to reupholster. It seems somehow dumb to me to buy a brand new chair and immediately turn around and reupholster it. Jinx, the bird fabric you posted looks fabulous. I forgot to mention that the kitchen is separated from the dining an living areas by an 8 foot hallway, though you do have a straight view from the living room to this eating area (toward the back of the chair on the left from 40 feet away) HU-187528210, is this the style your were suggesting? I like these and think they suit the style of the house. The downside for me is that most of them don't look they can be easily reupholstered by a hack like me. The table is this one from West Elm. The base is black and brass, the top is carrara marble. We did look at round tables (my original preference), but the space is extremely tight and square/rectangular seemed to offer more usable surface than round in the available space....See Moremegs1030
