Breach or real attempt?

Hi Houzz people!,

Got the following email recently. (copied not screen shot) I did not get any email from Houzz regarding the known breach back in December 2018 and so wondered if there was an attempt made to hack into my account by a third party and if Houzz were letting me know?

I have a suspicion due to in my personal life a particular person may well be attempting to sabotage my relationship with my partner so it wouldn't surprise me if it were a real Houzz informative email, however, one can never be too sure! So I changed my password, but not via the below link....of course.

Hi Juniper,

I don't recall receiving a personal message, but I did reset my password in response to the public announcement of a (possible) breach. And then I started having problems with the website, like bunches of suggested message threads in the middle of my message threads, so go figure. I guess that was just a coincidence. Oh well.

We were posting at the same time. Barbie clothes??? I have trouble enough working with big pieces of fabric, don't think I can work with something that tiny LOL! I have a couple of black zippers I inherited along with my mom's sewing box, they're 22" so could do a couple of chairs maybe, though the Velcro piece I used was 30" and I had no problem getting the foam in. I think I'll just order more Velcro from Joann's (50% coupon) unless I can find it locally - I got the initial 15ft at BJ's in RI years ago, I had used some so I need about 5ft more - or I could use snaps on the settee, I have lots of snaps but I'm afraid they'll rust. Isn't clothesline really thick?

Has my roofing contractor breached his contract?

Well...this isn't an issue of whether you are being fair, it is an issue of law. There must be a contract which it sounds like you read because you state the deposit is non-refundable, what does it say about start date and completion date? Remember that a judge will uphold the contract and more than likely dismiss anything verbal. It isn't like "judge Judy" and you have to have a point of law to prevail. Having said that you will want to make sure you are willing to leave behind the 2k if you hire another roofing contractor. Hind sight tells you to research any potential contractors you choose to hire(most states have an online search of civil/criminal records for individuals and business's) and follow up with references. My advice to you is to work this out with the Roofer and make the best of it because you want your roof replaced in a timely manner but it won't matter if it is done next week or next month. It probably isn't worth losing 2k to get your roof a month earlier. Hope it isn't leaking!!

What brand and quality is the piece? Mahogany has a natural reddish tone, trying to change that will probably ruin it. If you strip and restain the piece do you have that ability to put the french polish (lots of work) back on? There's nothing wrong about having different wood tones and furniture styles in the same room. Matchy-matchy is boring.

Something vaguely similar happened to my sister and DSIL. DSIL wrote checks to pay some bills. He put them in their mailbox right in front of their house. When he got back to his in-home office, he realized he had missed a bill. He wrote the check and carried it out to the mailbox. Flag was still up but the box was empty! In the 10 or so minutes that he had been in the house, someone had stolen their mail, thereby obtaining the bank routing number and DD/DSIL’s account number. They immediately called the bank. The bank, for all intents and purposes, closed their account. However, the bank left the account active just to see if anyone tried to access the account. This was done by the bank with no liablity on DD/DSIL. Sure enough, many months later someone tried to write a check on their account! Is ther any possibility that the check to the IRS was stolen out of your mailbox? The thief could have stolen it, copied the info, and sent the check on to the IRS, so that you were not aware of any criminal activity.

HI Junipergirl, It sounds like your password was reset after detecting suspicious activity on your account. (Sometimes this happens if someone was using a weak password, or their password has been compromised on another site.) It is always a good idea to use different passwords for different sites, in case your password is compromised elsewhere. If you have reset your password since receiving this notification to a unique password for Houzz, you should be all set. Hope that helps!

Thanks Emily H. I had changed many of my passwords earlier, and I suspect the person tried to use my old one hence the problem. I did change my Houzz one the minute I got the email. Thanks again for your advice.
