Should I attempt to remove red tone from wood furniture??

Hey everyone. I'm looking to get some advice about a piece of wooden furniture. I took a risk and purchased an entertainment unit online. The colour of the stain, in real life, ended up being way too light and red to match any of my other pieces, so I did a DIY gel stain job to try and get it looking closer to my existing neutral brown furniture pieces. The gel stain helped it get a lot darker, but the red undertone is very strong. I haven't varnished it yet. I just checked and discovered that the piece is made from mahogany. Now I'm trying to weigh up my options, do I:
a) add a green or blue tint to the varnish process to neutralise the red? (And how would I do that?)
b) strip down and restain the unit with a more suitable colour (or would the natural red of the mahogany timber still come through?)
c) strip down and bleach the wood to remove the red undertones, then restain it?
d) paint it the right tone of brown with paint, which would cover the wood grain?
e) give up on it and buy another entertainment unit?
Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks.
