Subzero 36 O/U Built in OR Integrated
Comments (7)Features are brand and model specific, so a broad generalization is pointless. Re: SZ's line - their 700 series "fully integrated" line is quite old and due for replacement. 10-15 years ago it was cutting edge and defined the segment. Now, there are several competitors with the same integration ability and better features. 700 series does not have water filters built in which is no big deal as you can easily and cheaply add whatever you like. They do not have the gee wiz replaceable air filter cartridges either. If you want the latest tech and design you go with the BI series, (or a Miele/Thermador?Gaggenau) and if you want multiple drawers or proven track record and full integration the 700 series is the ticket. The 700 series allows you to have flush doors across and install at 25" total depth. Can't do that with the BI series....See MoreSub-Zero or KitchenAid Built-In Refrigerator?
Comments (35)I've had a KA for a little over three years and I've been happy with it so far. I had nothing any more upscale than a basic Whirlpool fridge prior to this - Whirlpool brands have served me well - so this was more than adequate for me. Some good friends needed several repairs on their relatively new SZ fridge and went out of their way to recommend I not get one. Obviously lots of people are delighted with SZ but since people I actually know were not, that did influence my decision. I did want a built in with cabinet panels and KA was outrageously expensive enough - no way I was going to pay thousands more than that. For that I would expect flawless performance for at least 15 years and I just don't think they make appliances that way any more. What might have been great quality 20-30 years ago I really don't think is the same these days - SZ or otherwise....See MoreReview of SubZero 36UFD French Door built-in
Comments (2)I have a divider in my freezer bottom drawer. It is odd that you don't. I love this model. I had been waiting for it before I started my renovation because I knew it was in the works and none of the other FD fridges made me happy. I had had a SZ for 13 years before that so anything else would have been a compromise. I think I might have been one of the first orders back in the summer of 2012! We have a narrow walkway so we needed the french door. By the way, the guy at the SZ showroom said that they view the regular 36" as their best model. My one complaint about the FD is different from yours. The door shelves are less useful than on the regular model and that is a bit of a pain....See MoreSubzero or Jenn-Air 42" Built-in Refrigerator? Others?
Comments (13)I am going through this exact same decision. I am going to ask my salesman when we meet about how they compare, but I found out that the lead time is 6 months for Jenn-air and 1 year for Sub Zero. For the little bit of savings with Jenn-air, and if wait time were the same, i would probably go with Sub Zero, just because all sales people say it is the best. But if they are same in quality, and the wait is that much less, then I may go with Jenn-Air. Who's going to know what it is if the label is covered by a panel, except for if they ask, but I am now discovering that people DO ask, because they are looking for one themselves, and they DO know that they are a status symbol, which I totally don't care about, but maybe just a little. I haven't looked into Thermador, but I've heard its lead time is also a year. I am going to compare Thermador too....See MoreJerry Jorgenson
